    3. I am trying to trace my grandfather x 5 who i thought was transported to NSW Aus for 7years for stealing 7 chickens! I now have new information which says he actually sailed from Portsmouth on 17th june 1827 on ship Layton 1. The ship docked on 9th oct 1827. We think he may have ended up in Tasmania! His name was Thomas Cooling (alias Cooke). Can anybody help? Many thanks. Julie x

Hi Julie Looks like he did as Thomas COOLING per Layton is in the CD of indexes to convicts sent to Tasmania I am a bit puzzled as to why you posted this on TheShipsList ? Would have thought AUS-TAS-CONVICTS-L-request@rootsweb.com would have been a more relevant mailing list bye MargM Member of Central Coast Family History Society Gosford NSW
