Hi John, In addition to the picture URL Ted sent you, we have some pictures on TheShipsList too. They are of her steaming up the St. Lawrence, to Montreal in 1956. http://www.theshipslist.com/pictures/empressofengland.htm Ship Description and voyage history http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ShipsE.html There wasn't quite "year round navigation" to Montreal in 1959 (that began in 1964), but the port was open to the sea by the 1st April 1959. I'm a little concerned about your departure date, as her first 1959 arrival at Montreal was April 24th. She would not have taken three weeks in passage. At that time of the year her passage time Liverpool / Montreal would be about 7-8 days. If you are sure of the departure date, is it possible the ship was the EMPRESS OF BRITAIN which was also sailing Liverpool / Montreal and arrived on April 11th 1959 ? Unfortunately the Canadian landing record is not available, as post 1935 passenger records remain in the custody of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. If your mother was a passenger she would be able to request a copy of her record through "Access to Information," but because of Canadian privacy laws, the request must be either be accompanied by a signed consent from the person concerned, or proof that he/she has been deceased twenty years. However, there should be a British outbound passenger list, as those do survive and are accessible through to 1960. They are not filmed nor indexed and the originals are housed at Kew, so you would either have to visit in person, or hire a British researcher. http://www.theshipslist.com/Research/ukrecords.html I hope this helps, Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/
