My GGP immigrated out of Hamburg on the SS Moravia - arriving in NY City on December 23rd 1885. My Google searches for this ship have been confusing as they refer to two nearly identical ships with the same name. One was built in 1882 and one in 1883. Given that, it probably doesn't matter which one they were on, but I'm curious about the naming situation. I would appreciate if one of you ship experts would tell me more about this I would also like a good drawing or photo of the ship - SS Moravia. dolores desideri Looking for: Desideri, Innocenti, Lupori, Lenzi, Priban, Preban, Janecek, and Antos.
Hello Dolores, These were the same ship, built as BENGORE HEAD in 1883, purchased by Hamburg America Line renamed MORAVIA and sailed between Hamburg - Havre - New York for Hamburg America Line. Details at http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ShipsM.html The 1882 is a typo. There is a photo in the book "Ships of our Ancestors" by Michael J. Anuta which is available on inter library loan. regards Ted ----- Original Message ----- From: "dolores desideri" <ddesideri@earthlink.net> To: <TheShipsList-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 25, 2006 2:34 PM Subject: [TSL] SS Moravia > My GGP immigrated out of Hamburg on the SS Moravia - arriving in NY City > on December 23rd 1885. > > My Google searches for this ship have been confusing as they refer to two > nearly identical ships with the same name.
