Her description and voyage history is here http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ShipsN.html This says in part << NARRUNG was sold by P&O to Eng Hok Fong SS Co., Hong Kong in 1912 and in 1913 was . . .>> Curiously in a web search I found that www.anmm.gov.au (the Australian National Maritime Museum) showed up with a .pdf link . . <<An adjuster's report of the assessment of insurance. claims resulting from an accident to the SS Narrung in. December 1912. . . .>> so something must have happened. And, this link <<Mr. Waine, who began transmitting in about 1898 became well known locally when he received the S.O.S. that was transmitted by the Narrung P.&O. liner, during a gale in the Channel, on Boxing Day 1912. >> so maybe our description needs adjusting. http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/Museum/Engineering/Electronics/history/radiohistory.htm I see where MargM has weighed in to offer you some Oz research advice, so good luck. You may have heard of British "outbound" passenger lists, but those are unfilmed and unindexed, so you are probably best advised to keep trying at the Oz end. As Marg mentioned, if you know where they settled, so can estimate their port of arrival, you'll be part way there. Still, if you have anyone in / near London who can go to Kew for you, then provided the Powells didn't have the 'fit of the vapours' and delay, but actually sailed again quite soon, then a P&O ship to Australia, from probably Southampton, after December 26th 1912, might not be that hard to find. Searching British records requires a personal visit to Kew . . that, or hiring a researcher. Good luck Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/
Hi Sue, I think Haws book is in error on this ship description (his 2nd edition says 1913). Schell Register says - 1913 sold by P & O to Mexico SS Co, Hong Kong (Eng Hok Fong SS Co, managers) renamed MEXICO CITY. Rabson & O'Donoghue - P & O, A Fleet History is more specific and says - 16th Apr.1913 sold by P & O to Mexico SS Co renamed MEXICO CITY Seems like the description needs altering.
