According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Also the Museum of Mobile marine archaeologist, feel this vessel may also be the hulk of the MONTICELLO, which ran aground in 1862, after sailing from Havana, according to Naval records. The search now, centers on finding the ships bell, for a name that should be inscribed upon it. This area was involved during the Civil War. Fort Morgan was used by the Confederate soldiers as Union forces attacked in 1864, during the Battle of Mobil Bay.
