Our gggrandmother, Jane WATKINS, born abt 1812, supposedly left Ireland for Canada in the 1820s on the CAMPERDOWN...."during the potatoe famine"...but that was before the potatoe famine....so it's been hard to know from the family accounts what was true. I recorded a website site about the Camperdown a few years ago that is now "page cannot be displayed" I've been unable to find the surname WATKINS on any ship list of the CAMPERDOWN......I would love some help on this if there is anyone who could help me.... Hi Barbara, We have learned through anecdotal information that there is always some seed of truth to every family oral history. The bark (barque) CAMPERDOWN made several trips to Canada. Bruce Elliott makes mention of several of those passengers in 1819 in his book . . mentioned here on this steamboat list http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/passengerlists/1819ns10sep.htm http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/Arrivals/ships1819d.htm#camperdown Althought that vessel sailed several times to Quebec, it seems that 1819 was the only time it carried a large number of emigrants.
