    3. Hi Sue, Just FYI, I have seen this happen once before on another list I subscribe to -- Reunion.com did the same thing... It's some sort of spam-program.... As I recall, it was completely accidental and not anything the person did intentionally (or therwise??) -- I think it somehow got into the person's address book and went out from there.... Another reason why I NEVER forward those emails that say "send to 10 people you know in the next 5 mins" etc. All just scammers, I say! 3. Thanks Kim, that was the way I took it. Poor Patricia had been on the list since last March, but I didn't want to take any chances. If she subs again, I will explain to her . . although, the messages were sent last night so I didn't seen them until this morning, so she would have seen them on list and John's comment. Reunion.com was something I had always just ignored. I'd never looked into what it was <sigh> My husband's 85+ year old aunt sends me "funnies" which are great, but those "forward" things too, which I NEVER forward either. ;-} Sue -- At 11:05 AM 2008-11-19 -0500, Kim Gawlak wrote: >Hi Sue, >Just FYI, I have seen this happen once before on another list I subscribe >to -- Reunion.com did the same thing... >It's some sort of spam-program.... 3. In addition to being a subscriber to TSL, I'm also an active List Admin and I've see far too many of these on quite a few lists. Just FYI, the subscriber in question need only to sign up with Reunion typically as a social service to contact some friends such as Facebook, YouTube, etc. The difference with Reunion is that in order to join, you must give them access to your computer and address book so they can send out these messages to EVERYONE in it, without regard to whether it is an individual, a mailing list, a business, or whatever. Since they send it FROM YOUR COMPUTER AND ACCOUNT, that means it gets posted to the lists that person subscribes to. "If it looks like a spammer, and it walks like a spammer, and it acts like a spammer, then it must BE a spammer." When I get them on my lists, I immediately REMOVE that subscriber from the list and put them on the ban list, not as punishment but that is the only way of cutting off the access Reunion now has to mail to the list. However, I also write to the subscriber and explain why I did it, and invite them to either resubscribe now using a different account or to wait awhile before resubscribing in the future. Folks subscribe to Reunion without knowing any of this, because they conveniently do not explain that they are going to mass mail to all the lists you subscribe to as if you yourself are doing it, so they have no idea what is happening until it is too late. I wish there was a better way of stopping them from doing it, but that is all we can do as List Admins. :-( Not a great choice, but it does work. David E.
