Hi, can anyone help me? My grandmother said she and her parents came from England when she was a year old. Their names were George and Henrietta Ward along with their daughter Ivy Edith( my grandmother). I don't know what port they sailed from but I'm assuming Liverpool. My grandmother said they came over on the Mayfllower. She was born in Aug. 11,1906. I found a ship that was built in 1902 in Liverpool that was originally named the HANOVERIAN for the Leyland Line. The ship was transferred from that Line and renamed the MAYFLOWER in 1903.Then in that same year was sold to White Star Line and renamed CRETIC. The problem is I can't find the CRETIC arriving in Halifax during the years 1906/07. I don't have access to Ship's passenger lists. George was born in July 1867, Etton , Eng. Henrietta was bornNov.,1875, Peterborough,Eng. George would have been 40 and Henrietta would have been 32. Does anyone have any ideas as to what ship they could have come over on? I'd appreciate any help anyone could give , any little thing might help. Thanks, Maxine
Hi Maxine, I checked at FindmyPast http://www.ancestorsonboard.com/ ... and found these likely Wards, althouth there were two pages from Liverpool to Montreal in 1907 alone. I forget how many pages for the range of 1905-1907, so I keyed on Ivy. WARD George 1872 M 1907 Liverpool Canada Montreal WARD Henrietta 1877 F 1907 Liverpool Canada Montreal WARD Ivy 1907 F 1907 Liverpool Canada Montreal The birth years are estimated from the age given by the passenger. I don't have a subscription to that service, so I can't learn which ship. She was just a baby so the Halifax memory might have been from a later trip. This looks like them in the 1911 census (horrid mess of Henrietta's name . . and Ivy is now just Edith) and it agress with the emigration year of 1907 Name: George Ward Gender: Male Marital Status: Married Age: 41 Birth Date: Mar 1870 Birthplace: England Family Number: 95 Relation to Head of House: Head Spouse's Name: Henryota Immigration Year: 1907 Tribal: English Province: Saskatchewan District: Humboldt District Number: 209 Sub-District Number: 21 Census Year: 1911 Page: 8 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age George Ward 41 Henryota Ward 34 George Ward 1 Edith Ward 4 You are in luck as the Quebec passenger lists are online and free to search . . bad news is that they are not indexed yet . . AND there were 88 trips for ships from Liverpool to Quebec in 1907 http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/index-e.html HINT ... for the online images, click on the image to enlarge it, then hit the 'back' button on your browser to be able to move to the next page. I sorted those 88 trips (in my database) and found they a few ships took many trips, so I tried those ship names and found that I should have started at the other end of the alphabet <grin> Search criteria used: Last name: Ward First name: Ivy (including variants) Year of departure: 1907 to 1907 Departure port: Liverpool Ship name: Victorian Destination country: Canada Destination port: Montreal That certainly limits your search to one ship, the Allan Line VICTORIAN, but, she had 7 Quebec trips in 1907, with the June trip on two microfilm reels as the ship stopped at North Sydney in Nova Scotia as well, so I think you can ignore that list (on T-520). The VICTORIAN also made three early trips and one late season trip to Halifax, but the British outbound record confirms they were going to Quebec. The passenger lists are in quasi-alphabetical order, but check to the end as sometimes names were added. They are also a collection of several lists which include different classes of travel like "Second Cabin" "Steerage" &c.
