    1. [TSL] P & O steamer 'INDUS' 1853 Ceylon to London
    2. Paul and Valerie
    3. Hi List, I am trying to find details of a voyage of my ancestor. Her name was Harriet COLEPEPPER (COLEPEPER) a passenger on board a Steamer named 'INDUS' I have looked on Google and I think the ship was a Peninsula & Orient ship. There is an entry in the Allens Indian Mail 1853 July which was returning to England. She had lived in Kandy/Colombo, Ceylon for 9 years with her husband John Spencer COLEPEPER who was Superintendent for the Colombo Police. He returned home in 1859 alone and died in 1862 London. He was a widow on the 1861 census in London. I cannot find Harriet's death entry in General Registration under all variants of her surname. I am wondering if she went home because she was ill and died at sea. She was born 1794. He first husband was Frederick THOMPSON a Lieut in the RN and her maiden name was SOUTH. Any help with this mystery will be much appreciated. regards Valerie Richards
