Valerie The London Times of Jan 18, 1853 reports that the Indus was in London preparing for a departure. She sailed on Jan 20, (reported in the Saturday, Jan 22, Times), with Captain John Soy in command. She sailed again from Southampton on Friday, March 4, (reported in Mar 5, Times). On March 29, the Times reported that she was due back at Southampton on April 4. From this we can see that she was making very regular trips back and forth from the far east. For your July departure she sailed from Southampton on June 4. On June 27, the Times reported: On the 14th inst. the Bengal spoke the Peninsular and Oriental Cmpany's ship Indus with the outward India mails of the 4th inst., 164 miles E.S.E. of Malta, steering for Alexandria;... On July 5, the Times reported that the ship was due at Southampton in a few days. She sailed from Southampton again on Wed. July 20 (reported in Times of Thursday, July 21). It appears the trip was taking about 2 weeks in each direction. No mention of passengers by name. Regards..
