    3. Thanks, Sue! Andrea, I looked up the digitised newspaper index in the National Library of Australia website Trove <trove.nla.gov.au>, and found via "Pope, 10 Nov-31 Dec 1844 "a note in the Launceston Examiner Wed 11 Dec 1844 " Revolt in the high seas" citing Pope as the leader of the 3 T Hughes seamen demanding better bread. They were committed for trial, so ou might find more by extending your search after 1844. You never know what shipping information you might find in Trove! Best wishes, Bess Flores -----Original Message----- From: theshipslist-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:theshipslist-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sue Swiggum Sent: Monday, 25 October 2010 1:45 AM To: Andrea Balcombe; theshipslist@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TSL] The barque "Thomas Hughes" arr. Melb 23 Nov 1844; insubordination on the high seas Hi Andrea, You might want to consider joining our sister list, MARINERS, to ask about seamen. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Occupations/Mariners.html Mariners Website http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/ On TheShipsList, there are two items from the Sydney Shipping Gazette about that vessel in 1844, about 3/4 of the way down the page, added in the paper as if by after-thought, about mid December. http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/au1844d.htm ... unfortunately, no discussion about "Pope."
