    3. My ancestor Captain James Cabel 1779-1816 also Owner of the Ship HMS Caledonia (His Will states 32 shares) We also had a 13 Foot model of the ship (model donated to Fraternity of Masters & Seamen Dundee - now reposes at Camperdown, Dundee - I have see it and have phographs). The Grave of his Wife at The Howff, Dundee makes mention of his death in St Thomas, Danish West Indies. Is there any possibility of learning what caused his death In St Thomas, learn if he is buried there, and/or details of the ship's visit ? 3. Barbara There were several vessels named Caledonia but this is one I found. From the London Times of Dec 9, 1816 Port-au-Prince, Sept. 28. On the night of the 18th and 19th inst, we experienced one of the most tremendous hurricanes known on this island for many years past. Nearly one half of the house in the town were blown down. Every vessel in the harbour, except the English ship Ororomocto, were driven on shore, and several American ships, brigs, and schooners, upset. A large English ship, called the Caledonia, which arrived the day before from Baltimore, parted from her anchors and drove on board the President frigate, and both of them were completely dismasted. The Caledonia was part of an expedition fitted out by Mina, bound for the Spanish main, to assist the Independents. Mina is looked for every day. The country all around is in a frightful situation, nearly every thing being destroyed. A barrel of flour cannot be purchased for less than 30 dollars. Regards..
