    1. Re: [TSL] Looking for 1963 Information

Eastern Daylight Time, marj@uwaterloo.ca writes: First off -- there was a dock strike in Quebec in 1963 so in Sept-Oct of 1963 the Empress of Canada had to land her passengers in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Because of this, when she sailed back to England on Oct 16 she only had 10 passengers! ...... The strike in Montreal began on Sept 9, after the Aug 29, sailing and the schedule was altered. The London Times reports her arrival Sept 4, from her Aug 29 sailing. She sailed Sept 12, for Montreal but i cannot find an arrival for her. Oct 4, she sailed again from Liverpool but landed her passengers in Halifax. Regards.. Marj Thanks but its not what I am looking for. What I need is the price for each bed/cabin for the 1963 season. Also looking at the information I have it does not match what you found/suggested. The strike began on October 4 , with terms of the settlement reached on October 12th and the dock works coming back in Montreal on October 14th. Some of the liners it appears got away from Quebec just as the strike began without any major problems but the poor Empress of Canada in bound from Liverpool to Montreal when the strike began. She got as far as Quebec on Tuesday, October 8th. Unable to land her passengers in Quebec she got assurances and a court order to limit the strike activities in Montreal. But then the river pilots refused to take her down river and the unions threatened problems if she docked. Finally with 409 passengers on board she turned tail and went back up the St. Lawrence to Halifax where she arrived October 13th. If she had waited a little bit longer the strike was settled. But her passengers were unable to get to Halifax for the return sailing so she went out on October 15th with just 6 passengers ... not even the 11 you said. Five of the 6 were one family. Needless to say it was written up in the Canadian newspapers. Thanks Allan Jordan
