Not so much a "roots" request but since this is a ship list maybe someone can help. I am trying to locate a 1963 sailing schedule for the Cunard Line ships going in and out of Montreal to Ireland, England and Holland. I am also trying to locate a 1963 full rate chart for the Canadian Pacific Empress of Canada for her trans-Atlantic sailings between Montreal and England. All I need is a good clean photocopy or scans of these pages. I don't have to have the originals. If anyone could help me out it would be appreciated. Email me at sstraveler at aol. dot com please. THANKS!
First off -- there was a dock strike in Quebec in 1963 so in Sept-Oct of 1963 the Empress of Canada had to land her passengers in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Because of this, when she sailed back to England on Oct 16 she only had 10 passengers! In the Globe and Mail of Jan 12, 1963 there is an ad for the Empress of Canada Cruise to Mediterranean for $27.50 US per day on Feb 21. On March 2, the ad is for sailing from NY to Europe for $217tourist and first class $351. It says this is a reduction for the "thrift season" which was April. Next ads in mid-April from sailings from Montreal to Liverpool for $244 tourist. Advertised sailings were May 17, June 7, June 27, July 18, Aug 8, Aug 29, ...Oct 11, Nov 1, then an ad on Nov 9 for the EofC to sail to Caribbean for $243 tourist. The strike in Montreal began on Sept 9, after the Aug 29, sailing and the schedule was altered. The London Times reports her arrival Sept 4, from her Aug 29 sailing. She sailed Sept 12, for Montreal but i cannot find an arrival for her. Oct 4, she sailed again from Liverpool but landed her passengers in Halifax. Regards..
