    1. [TSL] Netherlands to Baltimore 1847.

    3. I have a translation of a "diary entry" about the 1847 journey of my gg Grandparents, with children, from Aalburg, Netherlands to St. Louis. The ocean part of this voyage would start from Amsterdam or Belvoot, Netherlands. From the diary, the family arrived in Amsterdam April 8 "and the 11th of the same departed and the 13th of the same arrived in Belvoot and Monday 20 same went to sea." They had a choppy voyage through the Channel which they "came out of" on May 1. … "The 11th [of June] we came to the city of Baltimore. The 14th we left the ship." The family consists of Lambert Michael, his wife Johanna Verbeek, with Petronella (b, 1835), Gijsbertha (b. 1837), Anna (b. 1839), Bartha [Barta] (b. 1841), and Yenneke Maria (b. 1844). Petronella was my great Grandmother. A distant relative in the Netherlands said the ship was the "Peitre Flores." (I've requested information on that ship at earlier times, but I had no information to accompany the request.) I would appreciate any help with finding information on this voyage. I'm VERY new at following the emigration/immigration routes, and really don't have the faintest ideas where to start. Sue McCormick.

    3. Sue, How wonderful to have such a Diary ... I checked the Baltimore arrivals and on Steve Morse's site I saw this ... Series | Roll | Year | Month | Frame | Ship M255 | 5 | 1847 | June | 687 | Pieter Floris I looked at the manifest on Ancestry.com and it actually looks to be spelled PIETER FLORISZ ... T.A. Begeman Sielzes was the Master. They filed the manifest on June 12th 1847. I think that are on the last page (of eight) with husband / father listed simply as L. Michael and mother and children as Verbeek / Verbeck I was looking for confirmation of when they sailed from Amsterdam ... I'm sure your Diary is the best source for that. In places the list is lovely, other places very damaged ... on the summary (of a sort) they refer to the vessel as the Ship Florisz in the front page they refer to "Ship Pieter Florisz," but they neglected to include "burthen ____" (tonnage) ... it carried 280 passengers. it only appeared to have made that one Baltimore arrival so I can't check other manifests for additional details. There does appear to be an additional voyage to New York in July 1849 "Ship Pieter Floris" (no z) but is had almost no information Ship-rigged http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/shipsrigging.htm http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ship.htm This is the best I can do about the vessel, that it seems that it was ship-rigged, so looks like the diagram at the above link. I googled and learned that Pieter Florisz was a Dutch Admiral who died in battle 1658 ...and found this from Iowa history http://iagenweb.org/marion/PieterFloris.htm ...and this http://www.dutchgenealogy.nl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=156&Itemid=29 You shold try googling with quotes with various spellings ... I think there is more out there to learn about the voyage.
