Great story, Sue. I'm glad you took the time to share it--no apologies needed at all! And thank you so much for all you do on the Ships List; it's monumental! I only wish my similar story could have such a satisfying ending. My gggrandfather on the 1900 census indicates he emigrated to the US from Ireland in 1844 (in a "cattle boat" according to oral family lore). He married here in 1846 (I have that record), BUT his wife's emigration date on the 1900 census is 1852! And their two oldest children are listed in various censuses as being born in 1848 and 1851 in New York!! Go figure!! I have pored over every passenger list I could find and have had no joy. Can't find his naturalization papers either, though that 1900 census says he was naturalized. It happened in either NY or MA, and I have really worked to try to find it. Just in case anyone can help: his name is Nicholas FORD, b. 1827 in Kings County, Ireland; lived in Kinderhook, NY (c. 1849-1854) and settled in Pittsfield, MA (1855-1902, when he died). Cheers to all. Jude On Jun 20, 2010, at 2:26 PM, Sue Swiggum wrote: > Yesterday was a wonderful day ...
