    3. Hi Marg, It's not exactly a town. It's a Native American Tribe in northern Maine, mostly along the border with New Brunswick. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passamaquoddy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passamaquoddy_Bay Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. If anyone has ever watched the funny, Disney movie, "Pete's Dragon," the people live in the fictional town of Passamaquoddy in Maine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marg M" <genknut@exemail.com.au> To: "Lamont" <Theshadow8418@verizon.net>; "THESHIPSLIST" <Theshipslist@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 28, 2010 11:23 PM Subject: Re: [TSL] Passamaquoddy 1832 > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Lamont" <Theshadow8418@verizon.net> > To: <Me-Irish@rootsweb.com>; "THESHIPSLIST" <Theshipslist@rootsweb.com>; > "US-Shipslists-post1820" <US-shipslists-post1820@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, March 01, 2010 12:29 PM > Subject: [TSL] Passamaquoddy 1832 > > >> How might I identify a ship which arrived in July of 1832 in >> Passamaquoddy? >> It was carrying Irish immigrants. >> > Dear L > > You have aroused my curiousity ........... 2. Robyn Munro
    3. Hi all, can anyone tell me where I can access a seaman's ticket register here in NSW Australia around the years 1850's and what information it would contain. In other words something that shows a crew member's agreement with the ships owner that he employed to sail on. I have my great grandfather Charles Smith born in Norway about 1833 and he settled here in Sydney New South Wale Australia. The following are possibly the ships he served on John Omerad 1855 Camilla 1859 and 1860 There are others but are less likely to be him. Thank you Robyn

    1. [TSL] Trace "Cygnet" wrecked near Conception Isl 20th July 1841
    2. Judith & John Humphreys
    3. Dear Listers, May I ask for help /advice please. This concerns my GGf Jas Wm Humphreys / Umphrey. He said during a newspaper interview, that was published in South Australia in 1910, that he was onboard "Cygnet " that ran on a reef near Conception Island, and stranded there until taken to St. Thomas. He said they were on their way from Nassau N.P. to Turk's Island and engaged in survey work for coal depot sites. In confirmation of what he said from Caledonian Mercury 28th July 1841 " Nassau N.P. The Cygnet ( mail boat ),hence to Turk's Island, was totally wrecked on the Southampton reef. near Conception Island, 20th inst.,crew and passengers saved." Have managed with a great deal of help, to put his maritime / naval history to-gether from 3rd Oct. 1841 when he joined the R.N. as Boy 1st class in Barbados till his arrival in Australia 1853. I am trying to trace his history backwards from "Cygnet " and establish date, place of birth, his parents etc. He may have been born 1823. I have tracked many "Cygnets " none of which have been lost on Southampton reef. How may I trace this "Cygnet " registration, agreements, crew lists etc. ? Thank you. Best regards. John G. Humphreys.

    3. John From the London Times for 1841 all from the Ship News column and there are several ships by this name. Feb 16, 1841: CAPS[E] HAVTIEN, Jan. 4.--The Cygnet, from St. Jago da Cuba, was wrecked near Isabella-point on this island, on on the 29th ult., and is full of water. In the June 21, 1841 column is a report: "On the 30th of March spoke Her Majesty's ship Cygnet, cruising..." Aug 26, 1841: "NASSAU, New Province.--The Cygnet (mail boat), hence to Turk's Island, was totally wrecked on the Southampton Reef, near Conception Island, the 20th; crew and passengers saved." Oct 2, 1841: "ST. THOMAS, Sept.3.--The Cygnet, from Nassau to Turk's Island, was lost on the Southampton Reef on the 20th of July. Crew saved." Is it possible that this Cygnet only island hopped as a mail and passenger boat??? Regards.. 3. Hello; Through ancestry.com I found my research subject, Karl Hambuch, of Herrenberg, Baden-Wuerttemberg Germay, in a passenger list for the Ship " C.F. French" out of Antwerp, arriving in NY City June 5, 1874. I have tried to located more information about the ship-- ownership, years in service, hopefully a picture, photo or sketch of it or a ship similar to it in construction, to no avail. I have searched the ships of the Red Star Line out of Antwerp for that time period, and no lists online have this particular ship listed. I can't rule out the Red Star Line as the owner of this ship, but cannot rule it in, either, without further corroboration. HAs anyone come across this ship before? Any suggestions for future research appreciated! Nancy Noel

    3. Hi List The Australian Dictionary of Biography entry for David ALLAN (1780-1852) mentions that in July 1819 David ALLAN, his wife Sophia and 8 children left Sydney for Europe in the Surrey. I believe they went to London as a daughter was born there in Sept 1820. I am trying to find a record of them arriving in England. Where do I look? I've tried everything I can think of. Further info for the family - The family initially came to Australia in 1813 on the Fortune where David took up the position of deputy Commissary General of New South Wales. They returned to England in 1819 on the Surrey, more children were born and died, his wife died, he remarried and more children were born. In 1829 most of the family returned to Australia in the Prince Regent to settle, some in New South Wales and some in Victoria. Details of the family believed to be on the Surrey in 1819 are: David ALLAN (abt 40) - born 1779 Edinburgh, Scotland Sophia ALLAN (nee JOHNSTON) - born ? Edinburgh, Scotland David Hendrie ALLAN (19) - born 1800 Edinburgh, Scotland Robert Innes ALLAN (18) - born 1801 Edinburgh, Scotland Henry Blair Watson ALLAN (14) - born 1804 Edinburgh, Scotland Sophia ALLAN (13) - born 1806 Edinburgh, Scotland John McMahon ALLAN (10) - born 1808 Heligoland, Germany William Osborne ALLAN (9) - born 1810 Heligoland, Germany Marie Antoinette ALLAN (7) - born 1812 Heligoland, Germany George Octavius ALLAN (2) - born 1817 Sydney, Aust Erskine Johnston ALLAN (1) - born 1818 Sydney, Aust. When the family returned in 1829, Dvaid Hendrie ALLAN stayed in England. George Octavius ALLAN wasn't on the Prince Regent passenger list, he would have been about 12 then, so don't know when he returned to Australia. Hope someone can help me because I'm going around in circles. Bev Kerang, Vic, Oz

That family supposedly arrived on the EMMY 1850 http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/emmy1850.htm ... however, if you check you'll see that there was a very interesting group of passengers abord the Emmy. Robert went above and beyond to "fill out" that list. 3. According to the London Times of July 6, 1846 in the Spoken To section of the Ship News, "The Sea Bird, of Sunderland, for Quebec, the 14th ult., in lat. 45, long. 56, by the Palmyrn, arrived in the Clyde." I checked the Times for a ship "Seabird" and could not find one sailing to America or Canada. Regards..
