Hi all, I posted this a couple of weeks ago but only got a picture of the ship, so thought I would try again. :-) In an earlier response to another subscriber, Sue Swiggum mentioned that this sailing of the Lake Michigan had "...some passengers to hospital". I believe my maternal grandmother (mgm) was one of those and wonder about a couple of things: 1. Was there a separate page on the microfilmed manifest that listed those hospitalized passengers? 2. Any way of finding any information about which hospital and what the reason was for the hospitalization? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated! Best regards, Shel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

An obituary I located for my 2nd great granduncle states Christian HOLTZ came to the US, landing in NYC on January 9, 1854 having left Hamburg, Germany on November 4, 1853. The obit reads, "Christian Holtz was born April 14, 1823 in Hamburg, Germany. He left Hamburg, November 4, 1853, and came to America, landing in New York City Jan. 9, 1854. He came to Wood County shortly after that time and resided here until his death. His wife, Hannah Holtz, died Aug. 2, 1897. The deceased is survived by two brothers, Joseph Holtz of Red Cloud, Nebraska and John Holtz of New England, this county." German parish records I have obtained show Christoph Gottlieb Johann HOLST having been born on that date in Warnkenhagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. Other records I have show that Christoph took the name "Christian" after coming to the United States. Christian was married at the time he came to the US, having married Hannah/Johanna Stetro (dob June 19, 1819 dod Aug 2, 1897). I would be grateful for help in finding the ship that Christian/Christoph came to the states on. Any other information would also be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for the help! Hi Eveline, "The Passage Makers" by M. Stammers spells it DAVID McIVER! Brief mention of the ship says - The DAVID McIVER, 868 tons sailed out in 107 days in 1854 and in 112 days in 1858 on her two known voyages from Liverpool to Melbourne. She was a wooden hulled ship, built 1851 by unknown builders in New Brunswick and owned by T. M. McKay. 1867? sold. A Google search for "DAVID McIVER" will produce many mentions of the ship, passenger lists, etc. regards Ted ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Swiggum" <swig@ns.sympatico.ca> To: <TheShipsList-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 12:33 AM Subject: Re: [TSL] The David McIver > Hi Eveline, > > At 08:26 PM 2006-06-19 +0100, Eveline Clarke wrote: > >>My Australian line has asked if I could find out any information about >>people who travelled to Australia in 1852 on board the ship David McIver >>which arrived in Sydney 19th May 1852. >> >>I am in particular looking for Thomas Blandford with wife Emma and >>William Blandford with his wife Elizabeth. I have a partial arrival date of Oct. 1894 into NYC (I think). I do not have the ship's name (the problem). The person I am looking for is a Nachman PICKHOLTZ. His last name made be spelled without the "T", or any of many variants of this name. The "P" could have also been written as a "B", "T" or something else. The first name could be Nathan. Can someone out there help me find this person?????????? Thank you Stephen Pickholtz Tabernacle, NJ

Hi all, I am looking for the name of a ship and the passenger list that left the UK in 1862 for New Zealand. The only information I have is in a family note that states: "my dear sister Jane Browne and family and my dear brother Alfred went away to New Zealand on 24/4/1862" Jane Browne's family consisted of Jane nee Carpenter born c 1817 Southampton, her husband George Browne born c 1815 Southampton and their children: George J Browne born 1846c Southampton; Priscilla F Browne born 1852c Southampton; Ellen J Browne born 1855c Southampton and Alfred James Carpenter brother to Jane. The family appear to have settled in Wellington, New Zealand so I am hoping that someone can tell me where or what ships may have gone directly from Southampton (I am presuming that is where they left from) to Wellington c April 1862. Any help or advice would be most welcome. Regards Sue Perth Western Australia.

Hi Marg Thanks for replying and I will look at the web pages you gave me. I will also beg everyones pardon in advance if I am on the wrong web site. I have been in a bit of a muddle here as I didn't know you could find passenger lists until yesterday and wrote without really thinking it through. I know that William and Thomas Blandford were on the ship as they were baptised a second time on board. I think what I am really looking for is the port in England where the David McIver sailed from. Reason being is that I have found William on the 1851 census in Gloucestershire. However so far, I cannot find Thomas anywhere, I thought that if I found where the ship left England, that might be the place to look for him. I even thought that maybe the David McIver might have sailed twice. Silly me. In those days a trip to Australia and back would have probably taken the good part of a year. I expect that I am on the completely wrong request web, but it is the only one I could think of at the time. As I said, not thinking right, if William was on the 1851 censusand there was only been one sailing between when the census was taken and 19th May 1952 when they ship docked at Quarantine Station, North Head, Sydney, NSW. I think I was also hoping that someone could throw light on the fact that the Church had paid for the voyage and they had to refund this charge. How did the church expect repayment? Was there some sort of "collector" who went round these people to obtain this?" I have been given a lot of information about the family from the David McIver to the present day. It is the bit where they got on board I am hazy about. Hi I have recently found your list and am hoping that someone can point me in the right direct. My Australian line has asked if I could find out any information about people who travelled to Australia in 1852 on board the ship David McIver which arrived in Sydney 19th May 1852. I am in particular looking for Thomas Blandford with wife Emma and William Blandford with his wife Elizabeth. William and Elizabeth had two children Mercy who died on board the ship on the way over and Jane who died in 1852 in the Quarantine Station, North Head,Sydney. From what I have heard from my Australian cousins, the church paid the passage and they had to pay them back. For some reason or other my search engine is playing up and it won't let me access anything on the net at the moment. I have tried accessing different places but it keeps coming up with "no results" I have asked on Family history and our local look-ups and although I have had replies without the use of the web (it brings up the page but won't let me access anything) I cannot get much further. I think this computer is due a visit at the VETS. I would be grateful for any help as to where I can find passenger lists. Eveline
