    3. Hello Wayne, I know you have been receiving responses with all kinds of good information, so I will give you some more. This shows the route the Canadian Pacific ship MINNEDOSA was sailing in 1923 Ship Name Departure Information Arrival Information MINNEDOSA Antwerp, Belgium / Southampton, England / Cherbourg, France Quebec, Que. / Montreal, Que. 1923-09-22 (CPSSC) Canadian Pacific Steamships, Ltd. There are no passenger lists in the form of the "big-sheet" manifest which we are all used to, rather, for the period 1919-1924 there were single manifest sheets for each passenger called Form 30A http://www.theshipslist.com/Research/canadarecords.htm#1924 As your Mum was a Home Child, there may be other lists of the children also. I note that Lorine has pointed you toward Marj Kohli's "Young Immigrants to Canada" website. Form 30A records are ALL ports for the whole period 1919-1924 and are in the form of a single manifest sheet for each passenger. The reels will include all years mixed in together, but they are NOT in strict alphabetical order, so make sure you scroll right through until you find who you are searching. As Form 30A reels contain ALL Canadian arrivals 1919 to 1924, they will also include those who arrived via a US port, but stated their intention to proceed directly to Canada. 3. Can anyone tell me if the ship's log from a particular trip might be available? I am looking for information on what might have transpired on board the SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse (saiing out of Bremen), and arriving in New York on September 26, 1900. The ship was a liner owned by Norddeutscher Lloyd. I'm hoping to write about the trip, and am hoping that details might be available. Thanks for your help!

    3. Hi Lillian, If there isn't anyone on the list with a database or books regarding Hartford, here are a few alternatives: State and Maritime Archives and Museums are wonderful resources in researching your mariner ancestors. Here are some links: Maritime Archival Links: http://www.theshipslist.com/Research/Resource.htm (Swiggum: All Rights Reserved; 1997-2006) & Connecticut State Archives Connecticut State Library 231 Capitol Ave. Hartford, CT 06106 (attn: Archives and Special Collections) & Seacoast Historical Societies (of New Hampshire & So. ME)) http://seacoastnh.com/History/Historical_Societies/Seacoast_Historical_Societies/ Source: SeacoastNH.com 1996 - 2006 & Genseek's MARINER & CREW RECORDS: http://www.genseek.net/mariner1.htm & http://www.genseek.net/ships.htm (all rights reserved; J. Fawsett) Also, The Peabody Museum in Salem, MA may have somethng in their special collections and rare manuscripts. I believe I saw an "Irish Mariners Index" with the Stitt surname listed, for those born in Ireland. That may have been associated with an Ireland web-site or with the Memorial University of Newfoundland. 2. Betty Breithaupt
    3. My Grandmother, Elizabeth Moore, was born in Ireland in 1868. The family story is that she came to this country at the age of twelve along with her brother, Joseph, who was fourteen, to join their parents, David and Maria Stewart Moore. My Mother told me her ship did not dock at Philadelphia, but did not go as far south as Baltimore. Does anyone have an idea where Granny could have come in? So far, I haven't found a trace of her entry. At that time the Moore's would have been living in Southern NJ, later moving to Broomall, PA. Betty

The records before 1925 are not indexed. To find a passenger you need to know an exact date of arrival. In cooperation with the National Archives of Canada, the Pier 21 Society in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has input the information from passenger list indexes for the years 1925- 1935 into an online database. A search engine for the online 1925-1935 NAC index can be found at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/search_shipscanada.shtml Between 1869 and the early 1930s, over 100,000 children were sent to Canada from Great Britain during the child emigration movement NAC (National Archives of Canada) has indexed the names of these Home Children found in passenger lists at NAC, and there is a searchable database at http://www.archives.ca/02/020110_e.html Be forewarned though that not all years have been completed, so a negative result does not mean your ancestor isn't there. As NAC completes the indexing, you may find the name you want. If you find a name of interest, you can contact Barnardo's for the records. They can be reached at aftercare@barnardos.org.uk I recently sent a request to Barnardos for an ancestor and was thrilled with the amount of info they sent from his files - including pictures of him on entry and on leaving for Canada. To me it was well worth the price. And of course you can order the microfilm to view the passenger list for yourself.. 3. Hello Sue, I would suggest contacting the Merseyside Maritime Museum for further information. There is a consortium of seven National Museums in Liverpool which seem to compliment one another in maritime matters. One nice thing about Merseyside is they have an e-mail contact form for inquiries. They won't do "deep genealogical research" but perhaps can answer a question on Baboo and their builder/owners. Their archival and library information sheets outline what is in their repository - and each type of registry, log book, dock register, etc. outlines the time frame and they give the advantages and disadvantages of research in a particular archived item. I agree with Lorine: I would like the source of this information. I checked the cimorelli site and there is no reference to a ship with this name, or anything close to it. I also checked the New York Times microfilm. If the date is correct, the only passenger ship that week from Piraeus was the Greek Line ship Athinai. -- Harry Dodsworth Ottawa Ontario Canada af877@freenet.carleton.ca ----------------------------------------------------------------
