    2. Ken Mason
    3. Hi, I'm researching my gg grandfather and find he may have had an interest in the above ship. He was David Halket of St. Helens Place, London. I know the ship was built about 1840 at Redbridge, UK and was wrecked about 1842. It carried convicts to Tasmania. Can anyone tell me how to find out whether he owned this ship and if he owned any others. Regards Ken Mason

Unfortunately the records before 1925 are not indexed. To find a passenger you will need to know an exact date of arrival. There is no easy way to search Canadian arrival records for the unindexed period other than reading microfilm. Ships are on the reel, in order of arrival. You can find the details at this URL http://www.archives.ca/02/020202_e.html If you want to order filmed passenger lists (remember they aren't indexed!), a list of NAC microfilm numbers for passenger lists to Canada 1865-1922 can be found at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_can1865.shtml If you are patient, you will soon (?) be able to search these unindexed years! 3. I have been browsing through the marvelous amount of informations that you put up on TheShipList.com. I am trying to research a particular ship, the GALLIA, operated by Compagnie de Navigation de Sud-Atlantique. Aboard which, on the 13 MAY 1913 at the port of Rio the Janeiro (or other Brasilian ports) should have arrived my grandfather from Portugal. I am in the process of adquiring more detailed informations on who might have the original passenger list, and also I would like to know at that time what sort of identification a thirteen year old boy should have presented. I will appreciate any help you could provide. Sincerely, Davide D'Angelantonio

    3. Hello to all; I am researching my great grandfather, Michael Berris, who I believe arrived in NYC aboard the State of Alabama on 5/3l/1886, if I have the correct person. But I can find no record of my great grandmother, (Anna or Annie) or their 2 children (Annie & Michael) arriving; in fact I can find no record of them until Brooklyn NY 1900 census. Can anyone help with the ship the others came on? Thank you.. Nancy Carner mcnc2233@sbcglobal.net

    3. *new* for TheShipsList website http://www.theshipslist.com/ All the new and updated files and databases have been placed on their own page(s) Find them on the front page in between the big arrows --------------> <--------------- At the bottom of each of these pages I have placed links named " previous month " and " next month " so you are able to navigate back and forth between the monthly *new & updated* pages, as I only keep three months of *new* page links on the Home page. New for July 2006 is . . . o Reports: o Passenger Act, 1849 (as regards to North America) o Hints for Emigrants to North America (ca. 1847-1849) o Effects of Passengers dying on the Voyage ca. 1859 These were a great find, from the "Colonization Circular." I was really surprised to read of the legal rights of passengers, before, during and after the voyage, as early as 1849, along with details of "passenger contracts." The "Hints" are great as they include cautions to emigrants, plus advice on tools, length of passage, inward travel, colonial tax, as well as routes and rates via the ports of Quebec and New York. The "Effects" item was interesting, as the methods of handling the effects of the dead were so different, even in each of the Australian colonies ; British North American colonies ; and Jamaica. o Passengers: o Quebec - 16th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 6th August 1824 o Quebec - 17th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 15th August 1824 o Quebec - 18th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 20th August 1824 o Quebec - 19th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 29th August 1824 o Quebec - 20th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 4th September 1824 o Quebec - 21st trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 12th September 1824 o Quebec - 22nd trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 18th September 1824 o Quebec - 23rd trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 26th September 1824 o Quebec - 24th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 2nd October 1824 o Quebec - 25th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 10th October 1824 o Quebec - 26th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 17th October 1824 o Quebec - 27th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 24th October 1824 o Quebec - 28th trip up, Quebec to Montreal, 31st October 1824 The last 13 lists for steamboat Quebec for 1824. Once again some interesting lists. Although most of the settlers had arrived earlier, there were still small groups arriving at Quebec into October. On September 12th, this entry really surprised me . . . 53 T. Kenrik ? (Kendrick) x x -/10/- Emigrant Society to pay . . . I had no idea that there was an organized "Emigrant Society" in Quebec in 1824. I often see "Dr. Mountain to pay," as he assisted quite a few with steamboat passage, especially families or women (widows?) with children. This was Bishop Mountain, later Archdeacon Mountain. I've seen initials such as G., J., G.J. and J.J. so I don't know how many "Mountains" there were assisting people although I tend to think he was George . . . I've also seen Mrs. and children, so he wasn't RC. Into August, there were still a lot of American tourists, from as far away as South Carolina, Georgia and Louisiana. Interesting sounding people too . . 5 Mr. de Wallinstein x x 2/10/- 2/10/- Willingstein / Watterstein, Secretary of Legation from the Emperor of Russia, from Washington. . . he was mentioned 3 times in either the newspapers or steamboat, with 3 different spellings. Please share this *new* for TheShipsList website email, with any other list to which you belong if you think it might be of interest or value to those list members (in other words, on-topic). Enjoy ! 3. Hi Folks, Sorry about going through the list. I did see the original and tried to see if they came through Australia but got no where, so deleted Lindsay's address. Lindsay, as a NZ resident, I don't know if you know, but you are "entitled to one free lookup per year(?)" through NZ archives I think it is. You can email them, detailing your problem and I think you get either one lookup or 1/2 hour free, but you have to be resident in NZ. My son in law got his 'freebe' and I did some research only a month or two ago in NZ (via the computer) for a NZ resident and they gave me the answer for free to because he was a resident - have a look into it, but don't forget to say where you live, they might check first. 3. My great-grandfather Walter Oliver EATON and his family were living in Leicester in 1901. By 1909, Walter and 2 of his children, Stanley Harriman and Clarice, were living in Christchurch. I know this is probably a huge ask, but Is there any way I can find out what ship they came to NZ on? I assume they landed at Lyttelton. (I also presume that his wife Louisa and daughter Ada Mabel died on the voyage as I can find no trace of their deaths in England or in NZ.) Any help, ideas or information would be most appreciated. 3. Hi all, I thought I should jump in before there was any misconception . . . I certainly wish I had had _as one single transcriber_ the time and the speed to extract all the passenger names as well, but the CD is titled Passenger Ship Arrivals, Canadian Ports, 1865-1899 http://www.theshipslist.com/cdrom/index.htm Passenger Ship versus Cargo / Freight Ships . . . not Passengers on ships :-{ quote << . . .The search results contain, the microfilm reel number where the voyage manifest may be found, the ship name, port(s)/date(s) of departure, port(s)/date(s) of arrival, shipping line, special groups and remarks. The CD contains multi-media elements which include sound, music, ships' pictures, ships' histories and a short movie of a period sailing ship (to set the mood). . . . The CD does not contain passenger lists, however, some passengers are named in "special groups" and in the "remarks" fields. "Remarks" also contains the name of the Captain, and births and deaths at sea, if such information is included on the manifest. . . .>> To get a visual of the CD you can open the PDF called "Read More About the CD " at the above link. It went by "certificate" to Glasgow in 1830, so that would have been the port of registry then, but in 1847 was sold to a "Ross" . . . who Ross? (I don't know). There was a ship BEE, 1352 tons, also built at St. John, N.B., but in 1853, by John Thompson, sold to London in 1856. It is this 2nd BEE which made the Australia voyages. 3. Ralph, You will find information on the famine immigrants on TSL http://www.theshipslist.com/1847/index.htm The Bee arrived on June 12, 1847 at Quebec after leaving Cork on April 17. She arrived at the Grosse Isle quarantine station 17 days before her arrival at Quebec. Of the 352 passengers, 165 died. Here are Cronins listed among the dead: Julia age 20 on the Bee died at sea June 12 (so she may have been buried in Quebec) (note: Julia is listed twice in the book so not sure if there were two women by this name and the same age.) - from "A Register of Deceased Persons at Sea and on Grosse Ile in 1847" by Parks Canada.
