Once you know your ancestor's state of entry, you can search microfilms. Most states are indexed, so this will make your job slightly easier. You can order films in to a nearby Family History Centre, or have NARA do the job (once you have precise details) Once you know your state, you can get a list of film numbers (NARA & FHC) at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/nara_indexbyport.shtml Scroll down to the state you want and click on the link, then find the film # you need The staff of the National Archives will undertake a search of the original records for a fee To find your nearest FHC you can go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp There are some ideas for researching hard to find ancestors on ships lists after 1820 at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/usaaft1820.shtml http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_newyork.shtml NARA & FHC film numbers for NY passenger lists after 1820 http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/tousa_ny.shtml Passenger Lists to New York all years http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/searchnyships.shtml Search Engine for online Internet Passenger Lists to NY
Good Morning Listmembers, I am currently looking for the passenger list information for this individual. Rieck Wessel Sinnen b. 08 April 1851 in Germany d. 20 July 1892 in Nebraska, USA It states that he arrived to the United States in the year of 1890. It would seem he went straight to the Nebraska, USA area. This is all I know of this individual. I am not sure if he came alone or with family. Thank you in advance for all your help. Hi, I am looking for any information, particularly on the owner/s of the ship Emily" which carried male convicts to Australia. I believe one owner was a David Halket but the Lloyds register only has this information on owners after 1876/7. 1842 - It sailed from London, Sheerness on 28th June, 1842 to Hobart, Tasmania and arrived on the 24th November 1842 1844 - It sailed from Dublin, Ireland on 14th July 1844 to Hobart, Tasmania and arrived on the 29th October 1844 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot! Ken Mason in a very cold South Australia

On Tony Cimorelli's Magellan website http://www.cimorelli.com/magellan/ Ophelia, arrived May 14 1850 from Liverpool, Captain W.B. Nason. Sorry, I can't help with a passenger list info, but now you know which US port to search and where she sailed from. Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/

DeHart Hi Lillian, On Tony Cimorelli's Magellan website http://www.cimorelli.com/magellan/ it looks like it was 1850 Eldorado, arrived May 16 1850 from LONDON, Captain Michael Thompson. There was an August 15th 1849 arrival (from Londonderry) with the same captain. There was another (?) Eldorado from Liverpool which arrived at New York on May 5th 1849, Captain Peter B. Morrison. I can't help with a passenger list or an image. Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/
Can anyone tell me if John Wightwick, his wife Harriet, son & daughter-James and Elizabeth, were on the Eldorado which was supposed to have arrived in New York on 16 May. 1849 or 1850? Also Margaret Ann Cook and Richard Crang on this same vessel. If a picture is available, I am interested in this too. Thank you, Lillian S. DeHart
Hello Anja, I decided to say something about this too. Using Steve Morse's one-step pages . . . http://www.stevemorse.org/ go to Castle Garden Ship Lists: . . . I found that this was the only ship from Bremen arriving at New York on May 10th 1852 Series Roll Nbr Year Month Day Frame Ship Port FHL roll M237 112 508 1852 May 10 754 Suero Bremen, Germany 0175468 Obviously the ship isn't SUERO, that is just a transcription. Ancestry.com transcribed it as TUERO, which doesn't look right either. The Captain name is D. Edzard, if that might help. Harry seems to have the correct arrival >New York Times, May 10, 1852 (arrived Sunday May 9) >Bark Juno (Brem.,) [captain] Adgard, Bremen, 50 ds, >mdse. and 194 passengers to [agents] Pavenstedt & Schumacker . . at least Captain name is similar. Unfortunately the person who wrote the ship details on the top of the manifest page is not the same one whp wrote the passenger names, so it is very difficult to compare. I looked for other JUNO instances 1850-1855 and found another 1852 arrival on September 13th for the barque JUNO, and yes, that name must be correct, as the captain name is exactly the same D. Edzard and the ship name is easier to read. The same ship "Bremen barque JUNO" with same captain arrived August 11th 1853 . . . curiously there was an arrival of "Oldenburg ship JUNO" on July 18th 1853, so be aware of ships of the same name sailing from the same port, to the same port, in the same period. Before 1820, such lists did not have to be archived (although Pennsylvania has them back to 1800) So, you might just consider yourself lucky to have found the detail you did :-) However, there is always a small chance that someone has reconstructed the list or that one did survive - somewhere. I have been looking for a passenger list for a ship named 'Western Ocean' that left Liverpool, England on 18th April 1863 and arrived in Melbourne, Australia on 29 July 1863. Apparently there was a James McCracken on this ship who may be my ancestor. I can't even find a ship by this name so wondered if anyone can help me? regards, Judie -- ~*Judie*~ from the land-down-under, but now living in Maine, USA!! www.paperbackswap.com www.frugalreader.com www.wodauctions.com
Hi! I have recently discovered that there's a strong possibility that one of my ancesteral families may have come from Ireland to NY with Dr. Thomas Clark and his congregation. The group sailed on the ship "John" departing from Newry, Ireland on 10 May 1764 and arrived in NY on 28 July. Here is what I found on one website about the excursion: "The ship's arrival was reported in the New York Gazette, August 6, 1764: 'Last week in the Ship John, from Newry, Ireland, Luke Kiersted, master, there arrived about three hundred passengers, a hundred and forty of whom, together with the Rev. Clarke, embarked on the 30th ult., with their stores, farming and manufacturing utensils, in two sloops, for Albany, from whence they are to proceed to the lands near Lake George, which were lately surveyed for their accommodation, as their principal view is to carry on the linen and hempen manufacture to which they were all brought up.' I have scoured the internet and thus far haven't located a passenger list. Does anyone know if a passenger list exists? Thanks so much for your time! Best, SueB

The New York Times sometimes published lists of American vessels in port at Havre. These were forwarded by the mail steamer for the information of shipping agents and others. I also checked the New York arrivals around May 10, 1852. Of the ships from Bremen the nearest to Luira (if hand written :-) would appear to be the Juno. New York Times, May 10, 1852 (arrived Sunday May 9) Bark Juno (Brem.,) [captain] Adgard, Bremen, 50 ds, mdse. and 194 passengers to [agents] Pavenstedt & Schumacker The previous issue of the NYT noted the ship "below", that is in the outer harbour and named her as the Junior. -- Harry Dodsworth Ottawa Ontario Canada af877@freenet.carleton.ca ----------------------------------------------------------------
Anja Are you sure about the spelling of the ship's name? I cannot find an arrival in the New York Times for that ship in 1852. I also tried to look at arrivals around May 10, 1852 and there are several ships from Bremen but none with a name even close to Luira. Regards..
