Greetings I have found one of my family, Michael Pearce, immigrated to Australia aboard the Salamanca which sailed from Plymouth on the 1st November, 1865, arriving in Adelaide on January 18th, 1866. I have seen the passenger list online but I am wondering if anyone else has researched this voyage or has any details about the ship itself. Any assistance gratefully received. Thanks Pam Veenstra

Greetings, In writing "The Flying P Ships" book, (self published) I was generously supplied with many photos etc. mostly on the Laeisz Shipping Company and its sailing era ships. Age is creeping up on me and I am wondering what to do with these photos and memorabelia (mostly photostat copies). Is there a suitable place to save these records? Many thanks for suggestions, Peter

Those who arrived later than 1906 were required. Therefore, for the pre-1906 immigrants, in the case of people naturalizing at a much later date, they could say . . well, I believe it was . . Usually the ship name was pretty well remembered, as was the port of arrival and most often month date of arrival. The biggest casualty was quite often the year of arrival. Anecdotally I have seen a 3 year memory lapse <smile> but in this case it looks like a minumum of two-three years. The Canopic of White Star Line was ex- Commonwealth of Dominion Line . . http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ShipsC.html . . and I note the curiosity of the Commonwealth arriving at Boston on October 18th 1901, but from Liverpool. It is unlikely she would have referred to her arrival ship by a name that it didn't carry before November 1903. I looked at the Boston October arrivals for CANOPIC for 1904, 1905, 1906 and they were all from Mediterranean ports, but arrived at Boston on either the 1st or 2nd of the month. What was her name and age at emigration? btw. there were _no_ ships sailing from Mediterranean ports to Boston before 1902 (Dominion Line) and no White Star Line ships into Boston before 1903, regardless of port(s) of departure or ship name. Fraser had already provided us with "The Scottish Line" (McIlwraith MacEacharn) Fleet, to which the Scottish Hero belonged. For this voyage we have the Arrival & Voyage Reports ; Passenger List ; Deaths at Sea ; Crew List and Passenger Testimonial. Steamboat Chambly, which are the last 16 lists I have for 1824. Chambly was a brand new steamboat in 1824 and the July 16th trip was the first Quebec-Montreal trip for her. (that 1st list has a link to the newspaper report about her). Surprisingly, she took a little while to catch on. Her first few trips went . . Three Rivers, Sorel (or Berthier) via Chambly to Montreal, with stops at other way-ports, but then she began to follow the same routing as the other steamboats, so maybe the "via Chambly" was not so popular. I will now be returning to 1826 with many many more steamboats (so far I have only completed the 30 New Swiftsure trips for that year) Lastly . . . I decided to add some "Google Ad" links to some TheShipsList webpages, to offer links to additional resources for TSL visitors. I have no control of which Ads are displayed, but I have selected only "SafeSearch" option. Some of the links are great, but some others are a bit funny for our "history" pages, offering ships for sale, holidays on steamboats, how to get a green card, or looking for a naturalization attorney . . but, I suppose the people mentioned in our webpage content, back in the 1820s --->> &c. aren't exactly advertising on google <smile> Please share this *new* for TheShipsList website email, with any other list to which you belong if you think it might be of interest or value to those list members (in other words, on-topic). Mary Manns (widow of Valentin Abands) born c. 1858 in Frankfort-am-Main and son, Ferdinand, born in Germany, possibly December 1881, were in New Orleans on April 1884. I've viewed each vessel on the New Orleans 1882-early 1884 microfilms and searched by name (including spelling variations) without success. Any information on which vessel they arrived in the USA or clues to finding would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any information or photos of the ship, Atalanta, that arrived in Melbourne, Australia in May 1860? Not sure where it sailed from, possibly England or Ireland? -- ~*Judie*~ from the land-down-under, but now living in Maine, USA!! www.paperbackswap.com www.frugalreader.com www.wodauctions.com
Hi, I have found my 'probable' ancestor but as I am in Maine, USA I naturally cannot visit the PROV to get a transcription of his immigration details. Is there anyone on this list that does this, or knows where I can find someone? I have the names, fiche no, page no etc, just unable to visit myself and look it up. Any help or ideas very welcomed! regards, ~*Judie*~ from the land-down-under, but now living in Maine, USA!! www.paperbackswap.com www.frugalreader.com www.wodauctions.com
