Greetings~ I was hoping that someone knew something about a ship called the George Washington that sailed in 1857 from England to New York. I am trying to locate a passenger list. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Leslie Ann
I noticed the following e-mail from James and tried (unsuccessfully) to send a response to him directly. Unfortunately I seem unable to post a thread response. So, if James is still there... I have a copy of a portion of a Ship's Passenger list that I think is probably from the same ship -- the West Point. The person we were searching arrived in New York 19 June 1852. The Port of Departure was Liverpool. The place of origin of the ship was Ireland. Further details - which may lead you to find your ancestory: Microfilm Serial M237 Microfilm Roll 114 List Number 754 Port Arrival State New York Hope that helps! Joanne Original Message from: "James M Sonntag" <jsonntag@hrtc.net> Subject: [TSL] Ship Liverpool to Port of New York 19 June 1852 Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2000 23:24:33 -0500 I have a copy of the manifest from the Port of New York for the ship Liverpool (not sure if that is the name) that lists Thomas Sontag my G-G-G-Grandfather. Passenger number 348. Date Sworn is 19 June 1852. I am trying to get more information on this ship as follows: Where did the ship leave from? Is the name of the ship Liverpool? What date did it leave? What date did it arrive? Are there any records the Port of New York would have that might help? Thanks Jim
All RootsWeb email list subscribers were informed by email on August 8th that the list software which manages all RW lists was going to be migrated from the ancient Smartlist to the Mailman system. I've been monitoring hundreds and hundreds of email concerns by other listowners after the migration of the lists whose names begin with the letters A-C. As with any new system, there are always "bugs" to be worked out, and as many of you probably belong to other lists as well, you may have already encountered some problems or have questions about what is happening. As TheShipsList begins with a T, the current schedule shows that the migration for this list is not scheduled until Wednesday, Sept. 6th http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html A good place to keep abreast is at "The help desk" http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ I will try to keep you up-to-date with information as it pertains to this list, hopefully before the migration. Most list members will not notice any real changes, but some may, depending upon your ISPs, which is why I will post an information email before our scheduled migration. Sue --
Does anyone hav access to the Ship list/passenger list for the Franconia.? Supposedly it left Liverpool for Boston in 1912, (arrived Boston I think July 31st?) I'd like to know the names of those coming from Finland, if that is possible, going to Quincy MA. Thank you. Sam

DEPARTURE PALERMO ITALY SEPTEMBER 13 1910 ARRIVAL NEW YORK SEPTEMBER 29 1910 I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO LOCTATE OF PICTURE OF THE SAN GIORGIO PASSENGER SHIP BUT CANNOT LOCATE ONE. THE SHIP WAS RENAMED NAPOLI IN 1922 AND SCRAPPED IN 1926. MY GRANDMOTHER AND HER THREE SONS SAILED ON THIS SHIP FROM ITALY TO AMERICA IN 1910
Can anyone tell me where I write to obtain articles regarding the wreck of the "City of Philadelphia" which was stranded off Cape Race Newfoundland in Sep 1854. A source suggested that I write this list. He told me that many articles appeared in the local papers - Public Ledger and Morning Post - along with the results of London's and Liverpool's Marine Boards of Trade published on Feb 5, 1855. I also seemed to have hit a brick wall in trying to find where to obtain the passenger list. I believe one of my ancestors was on that vessel when it wrecked. Apparently, many of the passengers remained in St. John's Newfoundland for about 5 weeks waiting for a vessel to take them on to Philadelphia, the ship's original destination. Bob Schlachter

On the shiplists website I find a postcard representing Kronprinz Wilhelm steamship with some handwritten wishes (courtesy of Malcolm Cooper) addressed to a man named Harry . I am presently searching traces of Harry Bäker (my great uncle) who was mariner between 1885 and 1902 and crew member on Delta Lloyd Bremen ships among other lines. I would like to find the owner of this document and ask for a copy of the back of this postcard to see through name, date and address if this concerns the same person. Thank you in advance for this information Best regards Louis Francken
Yes, there was a ship named Habsburg. Barb tipperboo12@msn.com

O'Brien was a regular, sailing between Halifax, NS and Boston. Nine trips Halifax-Boston in 1864 alone. The last trip for the bark appears to have been 1866. There were several different "HALIFAX" sailing from Halifax to Boston . . eg. from a brig HALIFAX 92 tons in 1847 to a steamship HALIFAX in 1893. You can check all the sailings using Steve Morse's one-step pages http://www.stevemorse.org/ Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/

I see Ted has answered about the ship name and where she was sailing from / to, but on checking Steve Morse's one-step pages http://www.stevemorse.org/ I see that there was no March 28th arrival in 1884, but there is a March 28th arrival in 1882, so that should be the year you research. If you found the year 1884 from a naturalization paper, then be aware that the most misremembered part of the date is the actual year of arrival. Hi Tom, The OCEANIC definitely did have a June 1909 at New York . . in fact, two June arrivals. The June 30th arrival carried 189 first class, 277 second class and 1,016 third class passengers. The ZEELAND didn't actually have a late June arrival . . . although I found these entries below using Steve Morse's one-step pages http://www.stevemorse.org/ Series Roll Vol. Year Month Day Frame Ship Port FHL roll T715 1278 2816 1909 June 1 169 Zeeland Antwerp 1399962 T715 1294 2853 1909 June 30 157 Oceanic (Zeeland) Southampton 1399978 T715 1307 2882 1909 July 27 2 Zeeland Antwerp 1399991 T715 1280 2821 1909 June 3 553 Oceanic Southampton 1399964 T715 1294 2853 1909 June 30 157 Oceanic (Zeeland) Southampton 1399978 T715 1308 2884 1909 July 28 309 Oceanic Southampton 1399992 . . .I decided to take a look and found Agata on Frame 258. She definitely sailed from Southampton, on the OCEANIC. Some of the manifest pages (including 258) are rubber-stamped ZEELAND and from ANTWERP, but those are crossed out with OCEANIC from SOUTHAMPTON written in. It is curious, as the Oceanic sailed from Southampton on June 23rd, but the corrected pages show a sailing date of June 19th. Some of the corrected pages do also show the June 19th date corrected to June 23rd. Our Zeeland description and voyage history doesn't mention a "break-down" in 1909, http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ShipsWZ.html ...but I suppose it is possible, with the passengers transferring to the Oceanic. The Cimorelli database is derived from the Morton Allan Directory and that does show all the sailings for both Oceanic and Zeeland as indicated above . . ie. no late June arrival for Zeeland. . . I think you transposed the ship names in your email below. Red Star Line and White Star Line entered into agreements from time to time and White Star actually chartered Zeeland for a time 1910-1911, so it isn't too surprising for White Star to have carried Red Star passengers in a pinch. Oceanic from Southampton, in 1909, used to carry about 300-400 third class passengers whereas Zeeland during that year was usually carrying 800-1000 third class from Antwerp, so the 1,016 passengers Oceanic carried for that particular trip was many hundred more than usual. Maybe another lister with access to newspapers &c. might be able to comment further on what happened to Zeeland in late June 1909. She had sailed back to Antwerp from New York on June fifth . . . her usual passage time westbound was 10 days +/- so the 19th June sailing date would fit with her normal turn-around time of 4 days. I know that 1909 was not the dark ages (though it is almost 100 years ago) but what a turn around to make two arrivals in one month. That Antwerp, Southhampton, New York run is the same one my grandfather brother and sister made in 1900 on the Southwark. Cliff Bischoff

Hi I wonder if some kind person can advise me where I can find a copy of the passenger lists for the Robert C Winthrop which left Liverpool for Boston Massachusetts arriving date 16th May 1850. I believe that an Aunt of mine travelled on this ship together with her daughter. Eveline

For a complete list of film numbers for ships going to Mass. after 1820, see http://olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/filmnos_mass.shtml Find your date (year, month, day if known) and write down the NARA or Family History Centre film number you need. Then you can order the film in to your nearest FHC or have NARA do the lookup for you. Good luck!
