    2. Greetings, How complete are the Castle Gardens Lists? I am looking for Wolfgang Raith who according to his Declaration of Intent arrived in New York in October of 1888. I know that he came from Ried am Haidstein, Koetzting in East Bavaria. No success as of today. 1) I know the name could be misread by the scribe. 2) I know that the arrival year was one of the most misremembered dates on census information although he filed Declaration of 1892 which is only four years out. Seems to me to file the Declaration in a court he would have had to have good information. 3) Is it possible that his ship is not yet in the system? Clifford Bischoff

    1. [TSL] Steamboat schedule to Goderich, Upper Canada in 1836
    2. Harry Dodsworth
    3. I recently posted that I couldn't find any steamboat schedules for Lake Erie for 1834. On further research I found the following timetable for service between Goderich, Sandwich and Buffalo for 1836. The service may have been the same in 1834; however I always warn researchers that transport was changing very quickly and the standard route for one year may be quite obsolete the next. This was primarily a service between Goderich and Sandwich, with occasional continuations to Buffalo. There were other steamers between Buffalo and Detroit/Sandwich. Canadian Emigrant, Sandwich [Windsor] U.C. August 2, 1836 THE CANADA COMPANY'S Steamboat Menissitunk, commanded by Captain Wright, R.N., will sail during the present season between Goderich, Sandwich, and Buffalo, on the following dates, touching at Port Stanley on each route through Lake Erie. Goderich to Sandwich at 1 A.M. June 6, 15, 18, 22, 25, 29 July 5, 9, 13, 16, 20, 27, 30 Aug. 3, 6, 10, 17, 20, 24, 27, 31 Sept, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 25 Goderich to Buffalo at 1 P.M. June 6, 29 July 30 August 10, 41 [31?] Sept. 21 [and similar dates for Buffalo - Sandwich - Goderich] For Passage and Freight apply to the Captain on board Canada Company's Office Toronto 1st June 1836 This is the first reference I have seen to the Canada Company operating a steamboat. The name Menissitunk, was quite clear in the newspaper but Google doesn't know the name. I found a reference to a steamer called Minnitunk, which I think is the same one, and another reference to the Minnesetung, also the same one! Minnesetung, 250 tons, built Goderich 1834, sunk at Malden 1839, raised and renamed Goderich. History of the Great Lakes. Volume I : List of Lake Vessels http://www.halinet.on.ca/GreatLakes/Documents/HGL/default.asp The name was apparently Indian, meaning "water with islands in it". -- Harry Dodsworth Ottawa Ontario Canada af877@freenet.carleton.ca ----------------------------------------------------------------

    1. [TSL] emigration Ipotestie, Bukovina, Austria>US & Canada 1911-1914
    2. Maritza
    3. Bonsoir Forgiveness for my English. I am new here. I try to recall the history of my family from Bukovina where I have my roots too. Many people of my village and my family emigrated in America at the beginning of 1900. For some of them I found the passengers list but for my grand uncles and aunts left towards Canada and US I do not find anything. There is nothing on Ellis Island archive. Does somebody know how much cost the trip from Trieste to New Orleans in 1907? (SS Gerty 21 sept. - Oct 26) or from Hamburg, Bremen or Rotterdam to Halifax, Baltimore or Detroit in 1911-1912? Unfortunately I don't have the name of the boat nor the name of the port but I think that more part of my family members left by Hamburg or Rotterdam. Village of origin is Ipotestie, Austria. Bukovina was under the Austrian occupation between 1775-1918. Today the north Bukovina is in Ukraina and that of the south in Romania. I'm looking info about: IATCU George (1891-1978) (american name Iatzko), Daniil (1888 -?) and Victoria (1894-1942). Marfta Hladiuc (1890 - 1980?). Left between 1911 and July 1912. George married Marfta Hladiuc on Jul 2, 1912 in Montreal. Horbaniuc Leon which was the husband of Victoria Iatcu. I also looking for Leon Krassi (1893-1973) left at the same time because I find it on a photograph with the marriage of George Iatcu in Montreal in 1912. He left second once in May 1920 (Hamburg- Detroit on the St.Louis boat). Leon's daughter give me photographs of which one called "meet me" It acts of a little boy of 3-4 years. There isn't the name of the boy but it is possible that it is Leon's child have during its first stay in Canada. Leon's daughter (63 years old today) would like to know if it a can be a brother. Leon said to his family from Bukovina that it was its godson. There is a web site where I'll be able to put this photograph? can be that someone over the Atlantic has a similar photograph in his files. (bottle in the sea.) >From my father's part family there're 3 grand uncles and a grand aunt left between 1912-1914. HRENIUC Lazar (1894-1985) Hreniuc Georgi (1890-1981) Hreniuc Demitrie (1885 -?) he went in 1912 on the boat SS Zeeland (25 March-12 April) Rotterdam - Portland. But in Jan 1914 I found his marriage in Ipotesti, Bukovina, Austria. It would have set out again in America two weeks after its marriage. We never have news from him. Hreniuc Victoria (1888 -?) I will be very glad to have some infos. The port of departure, date of arrival in America. With my thanks Maritza, Paris, France marita.hreniuc@orange.fr

    3. Just a little question for anyone that checks passenger lists. My grandfather disappeared from Ireland in the mid 1930s. If anyone ever comes across the name ISAAC SYLVESTER O'DONNELL, could they let me know. He was born in County Galway in 1904 at a place called BRIERFIELD, BALLYGLUNIN. Its an unusal name that someone may notice. No one knows where he went but there is a possibility of Trinidad(just a rumour though). Cheers, Mark O'Donnell
