However, we have been very fortunate to find the St. Lawrence Steamboat records........ St. Lawrence Steamboat Co. Passenger Records Pt. 1 - 1819-1825: St. Lawrence Steamboat Co. Passenger Records Pt. 2 - 1826-1836: http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/passengerlists/1819_36stlawrence.htm .....never before published passenger lists for the Steamboats which carried arriving immigrants from Quebec, to Montreal, where they continued to their destinations in the United States and Canada. There was more that one steamboat company operating on the river during most of those years, but we only have surviving records for that one company. I have completed the transcription 1819-1825 and I'm currently working on 1826. In 1827 there will be transcriptions of only two steamboats, the JOHN MOLSON and the CHAMBLY. In 1828 there are surviving records for five steamboats, NEW SWIFTSURE, CHAMBLY, WATERLOO, JOHN MOLSON and ST. LAWRENCE. The only thing I can advise is to watch that URL above for future transcriptions. As I transcribe the steamboats, I also extract the shipping information (and some news items) from the newspapers for each year. If / when you locate a possible or probable individual on a steamboat, then study the sailing ship arrivals at Quebec for a two-three day period prior to the date on the steamboat, you can note the ships carrying settlers from the most likely departure port for your immigrant. This is the closest thing you will ever find to confirm your ancestor's emigration ship. The newspaper links are included on the index page(s) above, as well as on each steamboat list. You can go directly to the those by clicking here . . http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/Arrivals/index.htm#canada . . . I have only completed through to 1826, so far. btw. a search of the "Search N. America Lists" search box near the top of this page .. http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/passengerlists/index.htm .. returns 16 pages where Morton is transcribed. No Alexander Morton singled out yet. 3. Liz The NY Times reports the arrival in the Nov. 27, 1883 paper Steam-ship Dorset, (Br.,) Stamper, Swansea Nov. 12. with mdse and passengers to W.D. Morgan. No mention of any bad weather. The London Times of Nov 13, 1883, page 6 reports the sailing... Swansea, Nov. 12.--The Great Western Line steamers Dorset and Cornwall sailed hence to-day, the former for New York, and the latter for Baltimore. Judging from this, I would not say the ship was two weeks late. The Dorset sailed to Montreal on Sept 13 and arrived on Sept 24. She arrived back in Swansea on Oct 21. Regards.. 3. Tanya Sue is correct. I did some more looking and found this. I should have known that the online Times does not always find things (even when they are there). This did not come up when I searched on the name of the ship so I went looking at ads: Times, Friday, April 2, 1852, page 1 At Liverpool.--For Portland Bay, Australia, under contract to H.M. Emigration Commissioners, to be despatched from Birkenhead on the 14th April, the splendid ship FLORA MACDONALD, A1 at Lloyd's, 674 tons register, copper-fastened and newly coppered, sails remarkably fast, and has splendid accommodations for cabin passengers. For freight and passage apply to James Baines, Esq., 6, Cook-street, Liverpool; or to Carter and Bonus, 11, Leadenhall-street. Regards.. 3. Hi List, I have two relatives on this ship with a story written by one of them about the arrival of the ship being two weeks late due to a severe storm. The arrival date in New York was 27 Nov 1883. I was hoping some one might know of a written newspaper article telling about this event as it had been given up for lost. 3. Shawna There are several ships by the name of Amazon. I see one sailing to Lisbon, one to NY, as well as some Schooners by that name going into NY. I found the Amazon in the London Times of Jun 5, 1863 in the Ship News Gravesend June 4 Sailed--the Amazon for New York No mention of the Captain. But.. I did find another item in the Times for May 12, 1863 Plymouth, Monday--The American ship Amazon, Captain Hovey, from New York, on the 25th of April, with a full general cargo, for London, landed nine passengers here this evening. 2. Hello fellow listers!! I'm wondering if someone has access to the passenger list of the ship Thomas P. Cope. I'm looking for a listing for a William H. Smith, age 6, who sailed on this ship on or about April 15, 1842 from Liverpool, England arriving in Philadelphia, PA. It would be a huge help to know who else in his family sailed with him and possibly where the family indicated they were going in PA upon arrival. Thanks for any help on this William Smith!!
