    1. [TSL] (TSL) Araminta 1852 From Liverpool to Geelong Victoria
    2. Lynne Barnard
    3. Hi List I would be very appreciative of any information on the Araminta, in particular a passenger list. A Catherine Hogan (and family) was listed as being on this ship as an assisted immigrant, but I have been unable to find and actual passenger list so I could see who the family were as I am unsure if this is my family member. My Catherine Hogan was born 1834 in Tipperary Ireland and was married in 1856 in Geelong Victoria. She married an Antonio Vienna who was a seaman. Any advice or information would be wonderful Regards Lynne Victoria Australia

    3. Hi Linda, I had a look at the passenger list. It said she was 29 years & 6 months, which makes her born about 1886-1887. She is going to her father, Mr. Alex. Parks at Lexington Mass., but it also says she was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada and had been in the US for 20 years ! Sometimes in that spot they'll say was in the US before from xxxx year to xxxx year, or even mention months. North American outbound lists do not survive. British inbound lists do survive, but they are not filmed or even indexed (yet), so it would be quite costly to hire a researcher to check boxes of manifests trying to find her UK arrival. Unfortunately, the place on the first page where you would read who and at what address she was leaving, has been filled with the information for the person below. They crossed through her line(s), repeated the info for the correct person, but didn't write in a correction for her. 3. In my search of the archives for information on the Commodore Perry which sailed in 1855 bringing my German ancestor to Australia, I came across this message and thought I would add to the message for anyone who may be interested. A more complete article reads: A curious circumstance in connection with the emigration of the last year is that about 31,600 German emigrants sailed from Liverpool in preference to sailing from Hamburg, Bremen, Rotterdam, or Antwerp. The arrangements are now so complete that they find it cheaper and more expeditious to cross over to England by steamer, and make their way to Liverpool rather than to ship at the ports of their own country, or those of Ireland or Belgium. The greater part of the German emigrants who sailed from Liverpool in 1852, were from the duchy of Baden and the kingdom of Wurtemberg; and there were also 2,000 emigrants from Switzerland. They all came down the Rhine, and most of them reached Liverpool by way of Rotterdam and Hull, though some came by the Cork Company's steamers directly from Rotterdam, and others by sea from Hamburgh...(Source: Reynolds's Newspaper, February 6, 1853, p.3) There are passenger lists for those Germans leaving through Hamburg, but virtually no records exist if they left through other ports. Many may have left Germany through unofficial means and so there may be no records of their leaving other than possibly those that may be in their village records. 3. In !862 Victoria and Vancouver Island were part of the British Colony of British Columbia. The two formerly separate colonies of Vancouver Island and New Caledonia were united in 1858 with the Capital in Victoria BC. You may find marriage, birth, death and other vital statistics at the Royal BC Museum site. I had a quick look and there doesn't appear to be any ship list there. All Canadian Ships List info for Canada, both pre and post confederation (1867) appear to be held at the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa. You may wish to go to that site. 1. [TSL] Passenger Anne WHITTAKER / WHITAKER

    3. Can anyone help with finding my great grandmother on passenger lists? Anne WHITTAKER or WHITAKER was born in 1854 in Woodlesford, Leeds, Yorkshire England. Her father died in India when she was young. After her mother died in the early 1870s she went to St. Petersburg, Russia to visit an Uncle Moss, a member of a prominent English family who had moved to Russia to set up business interests. While in Russia, she met and married an Englishman from Northumberland, England, John Simpson, born 1846. Census records of 1881 show them as being married and visiting in England. Wondering if anyone can help with finding my great grandmother or both great grandparents on passenger lists between England and St. Petersburg, Russia. Thanks for any help with this, Marina Ontario, Canada

    3. Wondering if anyone could help me break down my brick wall. John WHITTAKER or WHITAKER born 1827 in Oulton, Leeds, Yorkshire England, married widow Emma Smalley nee Lee in 1852 in Yorkshire, England. They had a daughter Anne Whittaker in Yorkshire England in 1854, then off he went to India. John died in India either 1857, 1858 or possibly even into the 1860s. Family legend states he was murdered by his servant during an uprising, so I interpret that to mean he died in the Indian Mutiny of 1857, also called the Sepoy Rebellion. Can anyone help with finding him on any passenger lists between England and India? Thanks, Marina Ontario, Canada

    3. Hi, The ship was the Cunard Line CARONIA http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/lines/cunard.html http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/descriptions/ShipsC.html In 1910 they probably went by train to a western European port, then a quick "feeder-ship" / ferry ride to a eastern England port, then train to Liverpool. This was called transmigration. http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/lines/transmigration.html . . and was a pretty common practise. Feeder ships http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/lines/feeders.html Those passenger lists do NOT survive, and I do not think you would find the UK arrival port or name of the "feeder ship" to England on the records before 1906 . . . The guide Debbie Beavis wrote for TheShipsList ... http://www.theshipslist.com/Research/ukrecords.html ... doesn't seem to mention that. She had written in later emails >> British lists give much less information than the equivalent arrival list for the United States, but for lists after 1906, can often give the elusive information of the name of the ship which brought transmigrants from the continent of Europe, into the UK. This is the only way of extracting that information as there are no arrival lists for these voyages (see below). Note that the name of the ship is sometimes given, but was not required. From 1907, the name of the steamship line bringing these transmigrants to the UK was a requirement, and this may open new avenues for tracing the name of the ship, should it not be separately recorded. << You can find British Outbound lists here, but there is a charge to access the full original record (searching the indexed names is free) http://www.ancestorsonboard.com/ Sue -- TheShipsList Website http://www.theshipslist.com/ At 10:00 AM 2008-07-15 -0400, [email protected] wrote: >With help from kindly researchers I found my grandmother and mother on SS >Canonia (spelling?) 30 Aug 1910 arrive NY from LIverpool. >they lived in Palesnik Hungary ( now Croatia).
