    1. [TSL] 1891 Canadian Census
    2. Stephen P. Morse
    3. Now that ancestry has added the 1891 Canadian census, the One-Step utility for the Canadian census has been extended to include that year. It can be found in the Canada/UK Census section of the One-Step website (http://stevemorse.org). Advantages of using the One-Step utility for 1891 Canada rather than going to the ancestry site directly include: - can search all years from the same form - can search on middle initial - can search on birth year being between two values rather than using plus-or-minus - can search on age - can search on religion - can select district from drop-down list instead of having to type it - can specify more than 50 hits per page -- Steve

    1. [TSL] Robert Hamilton arriving from Scotland
    2. John Tutty
    3. Hello Listners It has been some time since I have written to the list and maybe I am meant to know how to research my question however here goes. Having received a death certificate for Robert Hamilton I have successfully found his date of birth as being 30 July 1833 Colvend Roughforth Scotland. His certificate states that he has been in the colony for 50 years and so he must have arrived from Scotland c 1864. My question is how do I go about finding him on a passenger list and what ship; he may have come with siblings. Many thanks John

    3. Jack The NY Times reports on a ship called Hermann, Capt Willson, in the Oct 9, 1851 paper. But the Dec 24 arrival of the vessel lists Capt Crabtree: ARRIVAL OF THE HERMANN. The U.S. Mail steamship Hermann, Capt. Crabtree, arrived yesterday morning, in 20 days from Southampton, having experienced, for 12 days in succession, tremendous gales from the westward. On the morning of the 7th and evenings of the 10th and 15th inst., the ship encountered severe tornadoes, which lasted from 3 to 4 hours before their violence began to abate. Some sails were lost, but no other damage sustained. The Hermann brings a valuable cargo of German, French and English goods. ... the item continues and gives a list of the cabin passengers. As for the Franklin...Nov 3, 1851 NYTimes reports her arrival from Havre and Cowes -- sailing from Havre Oct 22 and Cowes on the same day at 6:30p.m. Regards.. 3. Good afternoon I just wanted to thank everyone who very kindly responded to my enquiry and for the links to possible sources. Very good of you all...many thanks. I have not found the answers yet but possibly that is due to my failure to navigate the web site pages and numerous links displayed on unfamiliar 'shipping' web pages. The search goes on. I am trying to locate a passenger list for the sailing as in the title. I would appreciate any advice as to a possible source should it be available. The arrival date of the of the ship at Victoria, Vancouver Island would be a wonderful bonus if anyone could suggest a source for me to follow up. 3. I trying to find information on the schooner MAGELLAN, ON85970, and in particular, voyages she made in 1887.   From Lloyds Register I know she was built and registered in Hopewell, New Brunswick, and owned by Caleb Dowling.  I believe she was wrecked in 1892.  Otherwise I have drawn a blank.   I would be very grateful for any information on the vessel or suggestions of where to look for information.   Derek Hayward Dorset, UK __________________________________________________________ Not happy with your email address?. 3. Dear List, Have info from Castle Garden site naming a Robert SHARP, as a passenger on the Gallia, Cunard Line, leaving Liverpool/Queenstown for New York and arriving there 16 June, 1885. The destination is 7328. Would anyone know the likely destination? In 1889 he married in Victoria, Australia. I am hoping this may have been his destination. Kind Regards, Pam Eustice nee SHARP

Apparently no one knows for sure what the destination numbers on the CG website stand for, but word of mouth reports this: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.immigration.ships/2068.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Good luck! 3. This was posted to the Baden-Wurttemberg list, but it looks like it fits this list too. Date: Fri, 18 Jul 2008 14:12:07 -0700 From: "Roberta" <[email protected]> Subject: [BW] Passenger lists MIS~FILED To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original I'm sure I've mentioned how fortunate I am that my family has been relatively EASY to back track into Germany. BUT BEFORE this, there was the back track paper trail of census records that led us to the emigration records and manifests. In spite of one census records saying my ancestor was from Austria and another year from Bavaria and yet another year Wurttemberg. My cousin had written to the LDS center in Utah (way before the internet genealogy explosion) and they found the lone manifest he failed to find because it was kept in the wrong place had been MIS~FILED, and not where it should have been with the other passenger records! It was a needle in a haystack finding for our family, which proved to be the biggest brick wall smasher in the quest. Not only that, it was a record that had been lost FOR YEARS and no one had known about this lonely little ship list. If anyone is looking for the USS Brig CHIPOLA that left June1837 and arrived in Pennsylvania in July 1837 I have that record and will be happy to share it. Roberta Baezner Chesley

    3. Hello Listers I ran into a brick wall and would appreciate some assistance. Samuel Mueller came to New York from Germany, possibly Bremen, in 1870 to 1872. Had children born Jan 1871 in Prussia and Oct 1872 in USA. He was born 1835 so would have been mid 30 when coming over. He was travelling alone as his wife and four children came over in Sep 1971. If anyone could help me with an arrival date and ship I would be ever so grateful. Thanks Jim Miller
