    3. Sally The London Times of Feb 27, 1875 reported the loss of a passenger steamer -- in part: "The Hong Kong, steamer, from London to Japan, struck on a sunken rock off Abdel Kuri and foundered....In the list of passengers furnished to us by the owners occurs the name of Mrs. Jane Walton, with her children, Alfred, Esther, jane, Thomas, and Nellie, and according to the brokers, this lady was going out to join her husband at Yokohama...." The ship was owned by Messrs. Watts, Milburn, and Co., of 85, Gracechurch-street, London. The loss was twelve drowned, including Jane Walton and her five children. Regards.. The Missing Friends Project on OliveTreeGenealogy.com is extracting the names of those who immigrated from UK to America or Canada and who were inquired about by family in various 19th Century newspapers. This project can be freely searched at http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/MissingFriends/ Missing Friends Project starts with Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper, published in London England and their weekly column (1886-1900) called "Long Lost Relatives". The fields being extracted are name of person in America or Canada who is missing, where they lived in the UK, when they left, where they intended going, ship name if known, when they were last heard from, where they were living when last heard from, who is seeking them and any miscellaneous comments. 2. M Lempert
    3. Hello folks. I'm new here. My great grandfather, Archibald McLees, was brought to North America by his parents in 1818. I have learned things of the McLees after that point, but I'd like to know more of my heritage from Ireland. Is there any chance a ship list might still exist from 1818? What I know is that the elder McLees left for (I believe) New Brunswick on June 21, 1818. Some months later, after settling in Montreal, he was followed by Mrs. McLees and infant Archibald. They later moved to New York City. The McLees had lived in Antrim in a small village of around ten homes. This village was supposedly within a mile of Giant's Causeway. I am unsure of the first names of Archibald's parents. Mr. McLees set up shop in NYC as a blacksmith. I presume that was his trade when he left Ireland. This is all I know. In addition to finding names on ships' lists, I would like to learn as much as possible about the family in Ireland. Can you advise how I might go about doing that? Many thanks. Mike Lempert

    3. How do I find info on the ship Patrick Henry? My great grandfather, Daniel Morrissey, arrived in New York aboard it on July 29, 1851. I found this info on Ancestry New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957. However; when I try to find it on your Ships List, he does not appear. My grandfather, Lawrence Doyle, came over in 1866 and I have not been able to find him on anylist. Both of these men came over from Ireland. Gerry, [email protected]

New for October 2008 is . . . o Fleets: o Westfal-Larsen & Co. A/S, Bergen, Norway 1905-2005 A Norwegian Fleet of 163 ships ... Fleet number 330 o Arrivals: o Ships to Quebec 1830 (in progress) The third page of 1830 arrivals is now complete and once again some more great newsy bits. eg. the "Death of George the Fourth and Accession of William the Fourth." and the July Revolution in France as well as discussion about two specific groups of emigrants .. those aboard the JANE from Belfast who suffered a drowning accident in Quebec while transferring to a steamboat and about the 280 aboard the TWO BROTHERS from Dublin, (who were from Kildare) and were mislead about monies being available to them upon landing, so were totally destitute in a new land. 1830 is turning out to have been a huge emigration year. Up to mid August, there were 22,500 and they still kept coming. To the same period in 1829 there had been about 11,500. o Passengers: o Emigrants for Canada, 1851 These 103 persons were Army Pensioners and their families living at the Tilbury Fort in Essex on census night (March 30th) and the notation for them was :: Emigrants waiting for embarkation for Canada :: so I hope we are able to learn which ship. What makes this find particularly special is because it helps fill another gap in the pre-archiving of passenger lists to Canada (1865). o ship Lord Raglan, from Plymouth to Port Adelaide 7th February 1856 o ship Navarino, from Southampton to Port Adelaide 21st February 1856 Two more ships with assisted passengers to South Australia for 1856. The LORD RAGLAN had ten deaths from fever. The Surgeon superintendent Robert Pridie became seriously ill too and may have died (but I'm not sure of that), so Dr. Drummond asked the Surgeon superintendent of the AUSTRALIA (arrived 22nd Jan), Dr. Henry Thomas Parke, to care for the sick . . he also died from fever. The emigrants were from all over UK and Ireland. The NAVARINO had a better voyage with only two deaths (dates unclear). They too came from all over rather than a particular area. Most of the singles were either with parents or other family. If anyone is able to furnish corrections or additions (like maiden names) to any of the South Australia Lists, please write to Robert or myself. Also if you know that any family or individual did leave for Victoria after arrival at South Australia then we'd like to know that too, so it can be added as a note to the list. Please share this *new* for TheShipsList website email, with any other list to which you belong if you think it might be of interest or value to those list members (in other words, on-topic). Enjoy ! 3. You really do need to use the correct address, which is given at the bottom of every message posted to the lists. Notice that the word request is in there. And you might need to do them individually. Just click on the link and a message should open already addressed - you just need to put unsubscribe in the subject line and again in the body. Marie
