Hi Konrad: for personal reasons I lost contact to this list some years ago and I'm interested to return now. Looking through the arquives I found your very differenciated explanation of the roots of our mutual family name (Feb 2014). You told that your tree starts after the 30-year war and that your clan is from Fraulautern, i.e. Sarre. My family is out of the region of Landau/Palatine (Roschbach/Nussdorf). But I read also hints about Herxheimerweiher. Should you see some connections I would appreciate getting an answer. one brother (Conrad) of this gtgrandfather lived in the years 1850 "in Northern America". I have been looking after him years ago (also in this list) but have no idea where he could have settled or even returned to Germany? This for today - thank you for your attention Steffen (Hamburg) P.S. in the phone lists of Hamburg (about 1900) I found one or two other Theobald families, they probably are from other regions in Germany?
Hello! I've given up to be speaker of the Theobald blog some years ago. For answering your question, there are two different origins of Theobald in Germany (see: https://www.ancestry.de/learn/learningcenters/namedist.aspx?name=Theobald ). A connection between the stronger Saarlouis branch and the formerly even strong Landau branch is not known up to now. Please contact someone living in or near Landau to follow that branch. Steffen, I don't have a Conrad in my tree but have some Theobald's from the places you mentioned. Matthias Theobald died 1719 in Herxheim am Berg and his wife, Maria Eva Schultz Theobald died 1736 in Landau. Their grandson Johann Adam died 1779 in Herxheimweyher as did his wife Maria Alysis Schillinger Theobald. Their son, Casmir, was born 1771 Eschbach and died 1837 Herxheimweyher. His wife Margarethe Eberle Theobald was born and died in the same places. Their son Friederich Adam Theobald was born 1800 in Herxheim Landau and died 1834 in Herxheimweyher. His wife, Maria Magdalena Schaefer was born 1806 in Rohrbach and died 1881 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Their son George Peter ('Peter') Theobald was born 1832 in Herxheimweyher and died 1897 in Vicksburg, MS. If any of this is familiar, let me know and I'll try to help you figure it out! Hi Kathy, godd to meet you again! I remember our contacts several years ago. - And now I'm restarting my efforts: It's amazing how various first names appear in the nearby regions but the local places of birth, death & co don't match exactly. Also the names of mothers are different. So I have to go into the original church documents. - And then I'll return to the list. Meanwhile: thanks for your offer to assist.
