J.G. Taylor played Sillimon in the production of "Thespis" at the Gaiety Theatre, London. It was the first collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan and has never been revived as the musical score was lost. The production opened on Dec. 26, 1871 and closed in March 1872. He next appeared with the D'Oyly Carte company at the Royal Strand theatre in "Trial by Jury" as the Judge, opening on March 3 1877. He played the part for two weeks only. J.G. Taylor also appeared in the 'pirate version' of HMS Pinafore, produced while the directors of the Comedy-Opera were in dispute with Mr. D'Oyly Carte.
