    3. Hello Whirligigers! You registered to be informed of updates to the WHIRLIGIG 1950's BRITISH TV AND RADIO NOSTALGIA site. May 2003 Newsletter. Sadly, this month we received news of the death of Michaela Denis at the age of 88 in Mombasa, Kenya. She was, with her husband Armand, a pioneer of wildlife programmes on television. Their first British television series, Filming Wild Animals, was shown in 1954, the same year in which David Attenborough embarked on Zoo Quest. One television series followed another: Filming in Africa (1955), On Safari (1957-59 and 1961-65), Michaela and Armand Denis (for ATV, 1955-58 ) and Safari to Asia (1959-61). You can find her Daily Telegraph obituary with further information here: http://www.dailytelegraph.com/news/main.jhtml? &xml=/news/2003/05/12/db1202.xml You can also find out more about their wildlife series and watch a video clip on the 'On Safari' page of Whirligig: http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/adults/other/onsafari.htm This month sees the release of the final batch of video clips which I had been storing up. They are: A Capstan cigarettes commercial - "Never go without a Capstan": http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/adverts/commercials.htm Another 'Circus Boy' clip as promised a few months ago: http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/children/circusboy/circusboy.htm and the 'Sportsview' title sequence with introduction by Peter Dimmock: http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/adults/sports/sports.htm I have also added the theme tune to 'Mick and Montmerency which featured Jack Edwardes as Mick and Charlie Drake as Montmerency, a couple of inept jack-of-all-trades workmen. http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/children/other/mickmont.htm I am always looking out for more video and audio clips, so if you have anything lurking in your archives which you feel might be relevant please let me know. I have been in contact with the originators of the Telegoons website who are planning to launch a new website devoted to the 'Tales of Rubovia' puppet series very soon. I will let you know when it is complete and has been released. In the meantime you can find their excellent Telegoons website here: http://www.telegoons.org =================================================================== As usual, if you think of anything that is missing or incorrect, have any more information about the programmes featured or just want to share your memories, do drop me a line to terry@whirligig-tv.co.uk Alternatively place them on the Message Board which I monitor daily at: http://go.ezboard.com/bwhirligigtv I'll be back you with more news next month, Terry Guntrip (aka Mr. Turnip) http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk http://www.TurnipNet.com -------------------------------------------------------- See the "What's New" Pages at: http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/whatsnew.htm http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/radio/whatsnew.htm with links to all new major updates or use the A TO Z SITE INDEX at: http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/tv/siteindex.htm http://www.whirligig-tv.co.uk/radio/siteindex.htm --------------------------------------------------------
