Does anyone have a Tom MORAN in their family? He is the lyricist on many of the musical compositions written by my greatgreatuncle, Ellis RILEY. In 1927, "Keighley Carnival Song" was published for the Keighley people and the Keighley Carnival Committee was selling the sheet music to raise funds. (According to the sheet music.) On the front cover, it says "Words by Tom Moran" and "Music by Ellis Riley". I saw Tom Moran's name often while searching through Ellis Riley's scrapbooks at the Keighley Library. Ellis kept enormous scrapbooks of articles of people he played with/for. Many of the singers and performers who performed in Keighley, Bradford, Saltaire, and Leeds were accompanied by Professor Riley. He also had studied in Paris and taught in Cardiff and Keighley. Ellis retired to Morecambe in 1940 where he died in 1944. He and his daughter, Maud Riley taught piano in studios in Keighley. Just months before he died at the age of 81, he was playing for performers at the Alahambra in Morecambe. Are there any Moran rellies on the List? These scrapbooks are available through the inner-library loan at the Keighley Library. I was told they are stored in Bradford. I can't wait to return and copy more pages. I will look through the articles I copied last year and list the names of performers that are in the articles.
