Hi Jo,I have condensed it a bit,but this is what the author W.Macqueen Pope has to say in Chapter 20,"some wonderful women".Clarice Mayne.he describes her as "the perfect principal boy"in pantomime,"her carriage and deportment were amazing"and she had an" attractive husky voice, combined with perfect diction, which made her a great singer of songs". On the halls she was a double act,the other half being her husband, the late James.W,TATE,who she always referred to as"That".He composed the songs and accompanied her on the piano. The songs that these two consummate artists gave to Music Hall hold their place still.TATE died in 1922 a victim of overwork,he was a partner with Julian Wylie in pantomime productions.Clarice MAYNE is married again, and happily,to that splendid comedian Teddie KNOX. excerpted from "The MELODIES LINGER ON"August 1950. Hope this is of interest Jo,regards,Carole.
