    3. Hi Blanche He was Marius Brenciu from Romania. There's a BBC website and if you go to the following you will find the right page without all the preliminary button pushing! http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/cardiffsinger01/index.shtml If you read Graeme Kay's review you will wonder how on earth Marius managed to win. Luckily for him, the jury obviously have more knowledge, as singers, than Kay and do know what they are talking about. There's a page about him too. http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/cardiffsinger01/profiles.shtml?romania Also http://www.yca.org/brenciu.html As for Bryn Terfel, he was our choice to win the first prize. A tremendous performance of "Die Frist ist um" and Hans Sachs Monologue from such a young singer was amazing. Dimitri may have won first prize but Bryn Terfel is so much more versatile. Dimitri seems to be mainly heard singing Verdi or the Russian roles and Bryn can sing anything they throw at him. I might seem a bit biased but we both won the Gold Medal for Singers at the Guildhall School of Music, he much later than I!.......... Best wishes Josephine Allen Kemper ----- Original Message ----- From: Blanche Charles <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 18, 2001 10:41 AM Subject: Re: [THEATRE-UK] Joseph Locke > Hello Josephine > > No doubt if it had been an international rugby match in Cardiff yesterday, > we would have heard about it here in New Zealand, but the Singer of the > World - no such luck! > > Would you mind telling us the name of the winner, please?
