There are at least 5 CD's available of Josef Locke. To my ear, his voice was strongly reminiscent of Richard Tauber. He was the subject of "This is your Life" and could still sing a Top C at a very ripe old age. There is an excellent biography site at http://www.spatty.demon.co.uk/jobio.htm He was a friend of another outstanding Irish tenor, James Johnston, who was the leading tenor at Sadler's Wells and guest at Covent Garden. And whilst on the subject of tenors, a wonderful choice of winner at the Cardiff Singer of the World yesterday. I normally prefer basses and baritones (I married one!) but this tenor yesterday made my toes curl up. Congratulations to him. He was the first tenor to win the prize and also the first singer to win both best singer and best "Song" (ex Lieder) prize. Hello Josephine No doubt if it had been an international rugby match in Cardiff yesterday, we would have heard about it here in New Zealand, but the Singer of the World - no such luck! Would you mind telling us the name of the winner, please? [He follows in some illustrious footsteps if he's anything like as wonderful a singer as Bryn Terfel!] Best wishes Blanche Charles Wellington, NZ ----- Original Message ----- > And whilst on the subject of tenors, a wonderful choice of winner at the > Cardiff Singer of the World yesterday.
