Hi Jan Glad you mentioned Paul Charlies side kick ~ the "White Faced Clown"!!! I was wondering about him as well, Do you know I really hated the Clowns when I was little ~ they really frightened me. Ask me know and I would dress up to be a "Clown" strange aint it? I was born and brought up in Blackpool, and I allways thought the "Zoo" to be a bit ragged! I allways loved the aquarium and the funny machines you put a penny in and had to turn the handle, ~ Like what the butler saw, and what twin would drink the milk quicker. Remember them? The "SHOWS" was allways the best though ~ But allways remember this kid, the "visitors" were "Millianairs for a fortnight"!!! Thats how we allways remember about our visitors!! Regards Lauren
Hi Lauren, From one sand grownan to another (only a local will know what I mean)!! I'm glad I now know the name of Charlies side kick and it definately was "Paul" he used to play the saxaphone beautifully, being born in the 1950's these two and their other side kick the old man who always used to get hurt in the motor car act were my favourite act along with the finale.... oh and the lions in there cage, if you were sat in the front row it was terrifying.!!!! My mum said the Zoo was on the second floor with the walls tiled in white tiles. The smell she says will always hit you at the entrance of the Tower. The story of "ALBERT AND THE LION" was based at Blackpool Zoo (in the Tower) not where it is today on the old Aerodrome by Stanley Park.
