One remembers the TOWER CIRCUS in BLACKPOOL. My first memories were in the 1930s. It was such a magnificent place. Not a tent but a huge part of the Tower with all its gilt and splendour. The finale was really something. The hands would come on, roll up the carpet, take it away (accompanied by a lot of tomfoolery from the clowns. Then all the subdued lights would come on as the floor of the ring would go down and then fill with water. The Water ballet was so beautiful with the girls performing their act in the water .. lit up by the coloured lighting. It is so very vivid in my mind. I have come to disagree with the use of animals in the circus, but I did love the clowns. I can't bring to mind the names of those circus clowns but I know they were mostly very well known at the time. Just after the war I remember one of the clowns was a 'little person' and he was so funny. I met him not long after when I was with my sister in the restaurant at Hills department store in Blackpool, but I don't remember his name. I wonder if such memories awaken similar memories in others? I have so many myself that perhaps I can share now and then. Best wishes to you all .. Marjorie
