Hi listers, I was one of the early listers and posted a message inquiring about an actor Bernard LEE, born 1908. It was suggested that I look in Who's Who in the theatre, and there was a quite a write up on his performances in Theatre & "M" in a Bond movie. I am now searching for his death & any descendants. John from Melbourne
Have you tried www.imdb.com (internet movie database) according to them he died in 16 January, 1981 and had a huge list of credits. Dear John, Not much I can tell you about Bernard Lee except that he died in 1981. "Halliwell's Who's Who in the Movies" described him as 'British character actor with solid friendly personality, on stage from 1926 In films, often a sergeant or a superintendent.... or "M" in the James Bond Films" '. First film "The River House Mystery"(1935) - last "Moonraker"(1979). They list 35 films and say there were many more. Also referred to is a gap in his actor career whilst he served in the forces during the war. Hope this is of interest. Dear John, Bernard LEE was a stalwart of /in British movies. He was usually in a supprting role, but he was always a 'good guy',and usually a senior police officer, or a kindly uncle type you could depend on. I do not know if it still exists, but there used to be a British Variety magazine which might help. One thing for sure, all the English newspapers would have carried his death notice, especially papers like the Times and The Guardian which would have had his obituary. I think he worked for J ARTHUR RANK STUDIOS and also ELSTREE STUDIOS . They surely have archives Good luck with your search.Dorothy in Dunedin NZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Lee" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 20, 2001 12:20 PM Subject: [THEATRE-UK] Who's Who > Hi listers, > > I was one of the early listers and posted a message inquiring about an actor Bernard LEE, born 1908. > > It was suggested that I look in Who's Who in the theatre, and there was a quite a write up on his performances in Theatre & "M" in a Bond movie. > > I am now searching for his death & any descendants. > > John from Melbourne > > > ==== THEATRE-UK Mailing List ==== > If you are having problems or have any questions or comments about the list, I can be contacted at [email protected] > > ============================== > Ancestry.com Genealogical Databases > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist2.asp > Search over 2500 databases with one easy query! >
