Dear Nettie, Thank you very much for your response to my enquiry about Sir Harry Lauder & Co. I am hoping to be able to search some old newspapers shortly so perhaps I might get lucky. No I never did find my grandfather in the 1881 census. I found him at four years old in the 1851 census for Ireland. The next record of him is in Belfast on my Dads birth certificate in 1903. I know his wife (my grandmother Elizabeth Bowden unmarried at the time) emigrated to New Zealand in December 1891 with her mother and siblings. I found Elizabeth in the Womens Voters lists in New Zealand in 1894 & 1896. She evidently returned to Ireland some time between 1896 and 1903 when my Dad was born. I have been searching in the Southern Hemisphere for nearly four years now for any records of my grandfather William Moore as well as his marriage to Elizabeth Bowden. (circa 1900) I have not succeeded in either quest yet. I found William in the Belfast 1911 census living with Elizabeth and my Dad. Twelve days after the census Elizabeth died. William was present at the death. Two years after that my Dad was put in an orphanage in 1913. In 1915 William died. So I am not doing very well with my research on my grandparents. I have found other generations going further back. Unbelievably just a couple of days ago I got a photograph of Elizabeth and a photograph of Williams father (my great grandfather) Charles Moore. I just cannot seem to pin down this Scarlet Pimpernel of mine. I really appreciate you taking the trouble to write to me. Thank you very much indeed. If you can think of anything else I would be terribly grateful to you. Once again Sincere Thanks. Jean
Hello Jean, > next record of him is in Belfast on my Dads birth certificate in 1903. and what did the birth certificate give as his profession? > found William in the Belfast 1911 census living with Elizabeth and my Dad. what was his profession listed as then? > death. Two years after that my Dad was put in an orphanage in 1913. Do you know which one and if so, have you checked if there are any records, if only admission registers? In 1915 > William died. who registered his death? and once again, what was given as his occupation? I'm sorry, I've accidentally deleted your first message. Coulkd you send me another copy? don't give up, Jean! all the best, Nettie
