I think it would be around 1905-1912. She was one of my grandmother's sisters but I dont know which one. Her second name was Corney but she may have changed her name. My grandmother used to visit her sometimes in the afternoons and have tea at the Gaiety Theatre, she would take my aunt with her and my aunt used to play with Lilly Langtry's little boy. > > I have looked at a few sites but I havent found her name which indicates she wasnt one of the famous Gaiety girls. > > Is there any way I can find her? 3. Hello, I wonder if anyone out there has any information on people who were on the London stage (maybe, in fact quite likely, music hall acts) in and around 1901? We have an ancestor, Susannah Ungley, born 1875, who, in 1901 was living at 200 Lillie Road, Fulham. She gave her name as Susie Ungley, occupation singer. She was living with her sister Ellen, who'd married an Enrico Protti, who may well have been on the stage too, as their son, Rinaldo Protti was definitely a music hall act in the early to mid-20th century. I'd be grateful for any information, or hints on where to find it. Thanks very much, Maggie Mattock Sandwich, Kent UK

Only one of these is available on loan, the rest are for reference. http://www.library.bromley.gov.uk/ click on "Login to GeoWeb" and then type in "Who's who in the theatre" It's a useful URL to keep if your own library doesn't have a web site. 3. Well I got a copy on microfilm on interlibrary loan. I'm in Burlington Ontario, but I think I got the film from either the Uni of Calgary or the Uni of Edmonton. I know various copies of the film are available in England - it's a pity that the late Paul Newman's site is no longer available - he had the places listed - There might be a copy in Birmingham, I just can't remember - Bristol Theatre University has a copy and of course the weekly Era is available at Colindale, but I doubt the annual would be there. Hope this helps. 1. [THEATRE-UK] James WILLIAMSON
    2. Jones
    3. My great-great grandfather, James WILLIAMSON was an actor-comedian in the 1800's. His occupation was given as "Player" on his son's marriage registration 1871 and as "actor-comedian" on the 1881 census. The family was from the Ashton-under-Lyne area but James was a boarder in a household at Stoke-on-Trent in 1881. Any suggestions where to begin further research would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. 1. [THEATRE-UK] Harry Wincott Music Hall Songwriter
    2. Karen Gee
    3. I am new to the mailing list and am researching my great grandfather Harry Wincott who was a musichall songwriter. Harry was born in 1867 and died in 1947. Whilst he kept the name Harry Wincott professionally all his life, he actually changed his name to Alfred James Walden sometime between the 1901 census and 1918. I have the titles of hundreds of his songs although many of them were sold to others as was the custom at the time. I would dearly love any further information on him as I have hit a brickwall and would be grateful for any information anybody may have, also on his second wife who I believe was a music hall performer called Daisy Pink who he married late in his life. 2. Hi Everyone Please can anyone tell me more about the above named book. How long has it been going and does it list people other than actors such as theatre managers and other staff? I am looking for info on Charles James Nugent who seems to have been involved with Her Majesty's Theatre in London c 1850/60's and possibly the New Holborn Amphitheatre 1860/70's Charles's son Charles Sidden Nugent also at one time worked in Drury Lane Theatre. He was a clerk at the age of 21 in 1861 but he could have risen to something higher as he appears to have been a 'man of property' by the 1890's Thanks for any help you can give regards MOIRA

    3. Hello Group, I am resubscribing after a long gap so I will re post my interests I am mainly interested in my Parkinson theatrical family My gg gf James Parkinson b.1844 d. 1893 started the ball rolling sort of (maybe with a push from his sister see below) by changing from a carpet weaver to a "theatrical Properties Manager" Born in Dewsbury, he and family (wife Catherine, sons William Bailey and John were in Greenock Scotland from at least 1881 - 1882. James was the theatrical property manager of the Theatre Royal Greenock (any info on above gratefully received) In 1882 a third son James Rush Parkinson was born in Greenock. After that the trail grows cold until James Parkinson' death in 1893, when he died in Teignmouth Infirmary - by this time a Theatre Carpenter. His son William Bailey my g gf is of the most interest to me. From 1881 to 1898 I have no information at all. In 1898 he turns up in Dumfries marrying Lousia/Lily/Lilian Day who claimed actress on her marraige cert - William was claiming "Stage Carpenter". Their witnesses were also two theatricals ' a William George Page Theatrical Property Manager and Ade? Tinsley Actress - all four of these people were living at 42 English Street Dumfries - Any info on a close by theatre to this address would be welcome. Louisa Day - variously calling herself Lily, Lilian etc, was a native of Bristol and She and William turn up there for the 1901 Census - In Cheddar/Axbridge - this I knew before it was confirmed as the 1901 census was conducted on the night before their first child, Audrey, my grandmother was born. After this it gets very hazy. Audrey b. 1901 and her younger sister Rene born 1902 were supposed to be child actresses/performers. William is listed as a Music Hall Artist on birth/marriage certs. I have very little concrete information - I have been told that William "invented something that improved early film screens" that Audrey and Rene were in many productions including Babes in the Wood (like that helps!!!) I have no further record of WIlliam after the birth of REne in OCtober 1902. Lily/Louisa remarries in 1918 stating she is a widow. Audrey and Rene continued performing until 1928 when AUdrey got married. If anyone has any clues I would appreciate it. I am making a trip to the Uk this august and I intend spending some time at Colindale going through copies of the Era again (I have tried doing it from here, but collections from the Unv of Calgary are not complete) There is another family connected with this James Parkinson had a sister Sarah/Emmie who married a Samuel Clive who was an actor - probably performing at F.Wybert Clive. I have found sporadic info on them - Sarah provided the obit for her brother James in 1893 (not wife Catherine which I found strange - Catherine was very much alive in 1901 renting out accommodation - maybe even theatrical rooming house) Samuel and Sarah had a sone called Franklin W. Clive who was an asst librarian in 1901 but may have been an actor too. I am assuming that it was Sarah that got james into the theatrical world - but that is just pure supposition. Anyway, a bit involved, but if anyone has any ideas, please let me know Thanks

    3. G'day Listers, I have some basic details of Madame LILY PAYLING, apparently a well known contralto in her time. She grew up in Sydney NSW, Australia but went to England after the First World War and appeared at a series of concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Hall Nottingham, among other venues, during the 1920s and 1930's. She even had a series of PAYLING subscription concerts at the RAH and The PAYLING musical society was formed in 1947. She died I believe in a nursing home in Northampton at age of 87.(date ?) I have also been told that she ran a conservatoire for music somewhere on Sydenham Hill and organised concerts in aid of the West London Hospital in Hammersmith. Can any lister help or give advice as to how I might track down further information? Regards, Duncan Payling, Melbourne Australia

    3. Try "The Stage" http://www.thestage.co.uk/ and go to the "connect" section. You might strike lucky. You could also try http://www.equity.org.uk/ and see if they can help you.
