Hi, List, Seeking information on Thomas Burdeth HOWE, who died in Chiswick, London, on 9 Mar 1908 at age 79. I find him in the 1881 and 1891 census returns, where he lists his birthplace as Pimlico. I have information that he was born as "James Burdeth (or Burdette) HOWE" and assume he changed his name for the stage. His second wife was Julia SKINNER (mar. c. 1885), but I don't know who his first wife was. Family tradition holds that his father was in the theater, too, but doesn't give a first name. Any help is appreciated. Lou I eat me peas with Honey I've done it all me life It makes the peas taste funny But it keeps 'em on me knife
Hi, List, I'm not sure if I've got this spelled correctly, but me Mum used to dance with a troupe called either Klifton Cabaret Corps or Klifton Cabaret Kids when she was 15 back in the 1930's. Does anyone have any information on this group? Photos? Lou

Hi again, Having done my bit of grovelling, I really should practice what I preach. My grandfather's occupation on his marriage certificate in 1909 is given as 'Actor' He was living in Leeds, Yorks at the time. He obviously wasn't a very successful actor as he eventually became a cobbler, but would there have been much work in the theatres in Leeds at that time? Regards Dave Jassie - List Administrator THEATRE-UK [email protected] Greetings from Lincoln, England
Hi everybody, THEATRE-UK now has 133 subscribers. I think now would be a good time to let everyone know what information you are seeking, or what your field of expertise is. Don't be shy - I've seen some very interesting and informative messages posted to the list. We are very fortunate in having such a wealth of knowledge available within our 'Troupe' and I would like to thank those who have provided answers and pointers to the various queries. William Bain GILL was a playwright. He wrote a musical which (depending how you count) broke the Broadway long-run record, and several more which ran decades round America. He also did some work in England. Willie ended up living in the Bronx, in a place called West Farms, working as an inspector of public highways. He has been found in the 1910 census, with Elinor, Willie was only 58. Did he end his days in the Bronx? Did Elinor? And also what happened to their two actress daughters. I am assisting someone in their searches and any sight of them anywhere would assist in finding another lead Regards - Dianne Carroll ==================================== High Country Heritage Research Centre http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/omeo ==================================== Pioneer Portraits of Australia http://www.angelfire.com/my/pioneer/ ====================================
Hello Listers, Mary MAGUIRE, my mother`s cousin, was an Australian born actress who went to Hollywood in 1936 under contract to Warner Bros. to make films, she was 17 at the time. In 1938, Mary moved to England, arriving on the "Queen Mary" in May of that year. In 1939 she married Robert GORDON-CANNING and was divorced from him sometime in the 1940`s In 1942 she made her last film in England, and i am told, she returned to America where she died sometime in the 1980`s. Does anyone on the list know anything of Mary MAGUIRE. Did she return to America, did she remarry, did she die in America. Would anyone know what studio she worked for in England and also, was she strictly a film actress. TIA from Norman A. in OZ.

Thanks Barbara, I have seen many post cards on the net which I have down loaded and compiled quite a picture gallery. She certainly had a lovely round fresh faced complexion and could see why she was very popular. Just need to find out her early days and what happened to her after her hey day.
