Hi Barry, couldn't track down any info on Ada Branson I'm afraid, good luck with your research. Gwen According to the Internet Movie Database (http://uk.imdb.com) his real name was Albert George Lee. Date of birth: 11 June 1880, Ravensthorpe, England, UK Date of death: 23 January 1946, Llandudno, England, UK [should be Wales!] There's also a list of his films: Up for the Cup (1950) She Couldn't Say No (1939) Yes, Madam (1939) Hold My Hand (1938) Please Teacher (1937) (play) Splinters in the Air (1937) Fame (1936) Hope of His Side (1935) ... aka Where's George? (1935) Squibs (1935) Doctor's Orders (1934) Girls Please! (1934) It's a Cop (1934) It's a King (1933) This Is the Life (1933) Trouble (1933) Up for the Derby (1933) Lucky Girl (1932) (play Mr. Abdullah) Mayor's Nest, The (1932) No Lady (1931) (story) Out of the Blue (1931) Splinters in the Navy (1931) Up for the Cup (1931) Black Hand Gang, The (1930) Phil Scrowcroft has included him in one of his garlands (http://www.musicweb.uk.net/garlands/255.htm): Bert Lee was also long connected with the English musical stage, as librettist and lyricist (and later as film scriptwriter), often with the Waller and Tunbridge shows, up to the Second World War, rather than as composer; but he is credited with the music for a number of songs: I Feel So Lonely for the musical The Island in 1910, Wild Oats for For the Love of Mike (1931) and numbers for sundry revues (like Sunshine and Laughter and Razzle-Dazzle) and for the touring musicals Mr Tickle MP (1924) and Billy Blue (1928). Generally speaking, his songs were best suited to revue or the older-style musical hall, examples being Fares Please! (The Tram-Conductor Girl), I Love Zomeone in Zummerset (with T.C. Sterndale Bennett), On the Nancy Lee (with Reg Low) and Fancy You Fancying Me! with Robert P. Weston, long Lee’s partner as lyricist and librettist in the theatre. This is what I know about my grandfather, Arthur Edward Higgins. I never met him because he went off on tour when my mum and 4 sisters were little- around 1930-and never came back... This is an obituary in a Halifax paper around 1950. I would love to know more about the world he worked in-the people mentioned, the job of cinematographer etc etc I would also like to know more about him and his life "After 40 years in the entertainment business,Mr Arthur Higgins, manager of the Regal Cinema Halifax, is retiring at the beginning of June. Mr Higgins who has been Manager of the Regal since 1942, began his career with the cinema in a rather casual fashion, in 1910, when, having thrown up his commission in the regular army and finding himself at a loose end,he caught sight of a notice in High Holbourn advertising tuition in the new craft of cinematography. After a fortnights instruction he obtained his first appointment with a variety company in St Austell,Cornwall,in which the cinematograph was one of the turns. With this company,Mr Higgins doubled the duties of cinema operator and "chucker-out" Without motley After the first world war Mr Higgins toured with such artists as Paderewski, Mistinguet,Marion Davis and Albert Chevalier and then went over to the theatre to Manage such productions as Robert Courteinage's. It was while he was on tour with Courteinages production of The Man From Toronto that the strike of 1921 tied up the Railways. Mr Higgins Company, which was then at Tavistock, in Devon, managed to hire a flat lorry to transport their "props" to Penzance where they were due to appear. With the leading lady sitting in the drivers cab and the rest of the Company sitting on the scenery they arrived at the Pavilion, Penzance, a few minutes before the curtain rose. Without even changing from their travelling- clothes, the players went straight before the footlights and presented the play on a stage entirely innocent of scenery. "We were a terrific success" said Mr Higgins. "We played to full houses all week" Mr Higgins will be succeeded by Dennis Bowden, Manager of the Regal Cinema, Bridlington Sandra

J.G. Taylor played Sillimon in the production of "Thespis" at the Gaiety Theatre, London. It was the first collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan and has never been revived as the musical score was lost. The production opened on Dec. 26, 1871 and closed in March 1872. He next appeared with the D'Oyly Carte company at the Royal Strand theatre in "Trial by Jury" as the Judge, opening on March 3 1877. He played the part for two weeks only. J.G. Taylor also appeared in the 'pirate version' of HMS Pinafore, produced while the directors of the Comedy-Opera were in dispute with Mr. D'Oyly Carte. He played Sir Joseph and was also the Stage Manager. It ran from Sept 8 to Oct.25, 1879. This information is taken from 'The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in Gilbert and Sullivan Operas.
