Samuel was a tobacconist. Since both Joseph and Edward are tobacconists, were born in Leeds, and are living quite close to each other, it may not be unreasonable to suppose that they are brothers. There is, in fact, a convenient gap in Samuel and Ann's children, into which he fits nicely.
