Their daughter, Doris, married David Peacock. John S. T. was a son of Samuel Tetley and Hannah (nee Barratt), and a grandson of Jonas T. and Mary (nee Smith). > > > 1901 Otley > > William P. Tetley son Single 15 years born Otley > Of Mill House RG 13/4064 ED 12 FN 124 I'm fairly sure that William was the son of Amos Tetley and Ann Pollard. (and I've only just made this connection) I'd love to know what the initial P in William's name stands for! If it turned out to be Pollard, that would clinch it! So this is (probably) another branch under John Tetley and Susannah Porritt (Amos was one of their sons) > 1901 Bowling > > Walter Tetley head 54 years Power Loom Overlooker born Birkenshaw > Hannah Tetley wife 54 years born Gomersal > John Oatis? Actually this is quite a substantial branch of the Tetleys that we know little about, after the 1880s and 1890s. > 1901 Bowling > > Alfred Tetley head 37 years Colour Mixer at Dye works born Otley > Mary Grace Tetley wife 41 years born Halifax > Wilfred Tetley son single 4 years born Bradford > Of 115 Newcross St RG 13/4146 ED 27 FN 5 Since this is Remembrance Sunday, it is rather poignant that this census entry should appear on my screen. The four-year-old Wilfred of 1901, was to die on the Somme battlefield in 1916, before his 20th birthday. His name is inscribed on the memorial, at Thiepval Wood, to those 73,000 and more, who died in the Ancre Valley and surrounding fields, and who have no known grave. In Memory of Private Wilfred Tetley 11th Bn., West Yorkshire Regt. (Prince of Wales's Own) who died on Saturday, 7th October 1916. Remembered with honour THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. In the perpetual care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is also an inscription on his family's memorial in Bradford which reads:- Also of Wilfred Tetley, born Dec 10th 1896, killed in action, Oct 7th 1916 Somewhere in France. Good Night I will not say farewell, Comrade o'mine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Regards Richard
