He married Kate Snow Walsh in 1872. Certainly he was in Edinburgh in 1881. Incidentally, he had a brother called John Smith Tetley. For those who aren't familiar with breweries in Yorkshire, there is a Tetley brewery in Leeds and John Smith's in Tadcaster.
