Hi, One of our new members is Susan, who is connected to Sarah Elizabeth Tetley. Sarah Elizabeth Tetley married John Horton on the 24th December 1836 at St Peter's, Leeds. There was a chap named Tetley Horton, on the 1881 census, who was born in 1847, and may well be a descendant of this couple, but further research is needed there. Susan's great great grandmother was Mary Ann Horton (sister to John Horton) Susan wrote:- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mary married Richard Jarvis, a Hatter, who had a shop in Briggate Leeds. They had twin daughters, Ada and Clara. Clara Jarvis (born 14 Nov 1856) married William Henry Whitelock who became a very successful restauranteur and owned the Turk's Head which became Whitelock's first city luncheon bar and is still situated in a yard leading off from Briggate, Leeds. The Turk's Head was established in 1715 and was used by the cloth merchants to bargain (and drink!) when they brought their cloth to Leeds. Whitelock's is still there with the original fittings but was bought by William Youngers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unfortunately, I don't know who Sarah Elizabeth T. was related to! It isn't clear when she was born, although it would seem that 1815 would be a 'latest' date she could have been born, if she was 21 when she married. The appearance of the Horton family on the 1851 census might be interesting. It should give an age for Sarah. Of the possibilities in the database, there is Sarah, daughter of Joshua and Hannah, who was born in 1813, but, according to my data, she married John G Rowe (although I don't have a date for that marriage), and died in 1851. There was one Sarah, born in 1811, the daughter of Benjamin, but I believe that she died in 1817. Does anyone have any clues, or ideas?
