Hi Richard, I can't really help, but just an off-the-wall guess might be.... Bartholomew Tetley of Bradford (Wool Comber) married Sarah Clough of Bradford spinster on 21st November 1774 page 60 No 2880 If they didn't name a son Bartholomew, I'd be surprised! If they did have a son and call him Bartholomew, he might have been born 1775-6 ish, and be about 21 in 1796 (give or take a few months). Maybe it would be worth looking at the names they gave to their sons. There are rules that are followed in some families. I can't recall how it goes exactly, but the first is named after the father's father and so on. Having said that, it does look as though he was heading for calling his sons, Mathew, Mark, Luke & John. The Heaton family are fairly well known, (and seem decent enough folk!) so it would be nice to be linked to them! One (more serious) thought, have you tried chasing up Bartholomew's military records? It's just possible that something has survived, relating to his miltary service. From memory he was in the Durham militia, so maybe a Durham military researcher could help. I remember the controversy a few years back when the Yorkshire genealogy group got bogged down over whether Yorkshire puddings and other culinary fare were an appropriate topics of discussion.
