I am looking for information on my great-grandmother Emilie Teske Bollman.  She was born April 27, 1852 in District of Deutsch Kron, Pomerania, Prussia.  She married Carl Bollman February 22, 1875.  On the death certificate, her father is listed as John Teske and her mother as Catherine Drife.  Carl, Emilie and 4 children came to the United States in April of 1883.  They first lived in Brooklyn, New York and then moved to Balaton, Minnesota.   From a postcard sent to them, there were relatives in Appelwerder,  I know there were relatives in Brooklyn, but have no names.    Any help or suggests are much appreciated!               Linda Westrom

The family settled in Winona, MN and Walsh County ND. He had uncles named Christian and August plus more brothers. I am copying this part of where they came from and where they got their name from a document I have on the family history.~~~~~~~ January 14, 1917 Originally written at Greenbush, Minnesota: (The following is claimed by Magdalene C. Teske (died 1979) to have been related to her by her father, Albert Teske.) In the year 1660 (or 1670) all of the Protestants (in France) were given an edict to join Catholicism, dropping their affiliation with whatever non-catholic religion they professed. If they refused to abide by the new religious edict they were ordered to leave France at once. Therefore, the family named DeTessier, consisting of: Christian, Karl, Johan, Fritz or Frederick, Maximillian, and August (must also have included the women-folk) all left France with their wives and children, and went to Germany. There was complete religious freedom in Germany. Their first home was in Baldenburg, where they settled on small farms. Many years of wars followed - in fact, for a period of 70 years off and on. Especially from 1757-1763 these people (descendants) fought hard against France. After (the war) they decided to change the French version of their surname to Teske. Our Dad's (Albert's) father was Carl (Karl). He was born in 1810, in Baldenburg, Germany. He became a teacher, died at the age of 32 (1842). Dad was born in 1836. Albert's mother's name was Louisa, born in 1818. She died at age 74. Albert's grandmother, Anna Kedding (or Kadding) Tessier, born in 1780 and died at the age of 93. She was known as "Doctor Lady". Albert's brother, Fritz, was born in 1840, Nov. 10. Albert and Fritz had one sister, Karlina, born in 1842~ She died in June, 1892. Albert Teske was born in Baldenburg July 31, 1836. There is a good book on the Mulgrave settlers called Olden days that has genealogy as far as my father. I spend a good deal of my child hood up in Mulgrave where my dad was raised. 1. Wilhelm Teske was born 1820 in Prussia/Germany. He died in Mulgrave. Wilhelm Teske was granted Lands by the Province of Quebec in the Township of Mulgrave. Lots in Rage 4, 100 acres May 23rd 1872 and in Range 4 100 acres Nov 25, 1889. Wilhelm married Mary Abraham, daughter of Unknown Abraham, in Prussia. Mary was born 1826 in Pomerania, Prussia. She died 1901. They had the following children: 2 M i Albert Teske was born 1846 and died 1936. 3 F ii Johanna H Teske was born 1853 in Prussia. She died 1886. 4 M iii August Teske was born 1857 and died 5 Feb 1938. 5 M iv Alfred Teske was born 1862 and died 1949. 6 F v Alvina Teske was born 1865 in Prussia. She died 1928 and was buried 1928 in St. Matthew's, Inlet. 7 F vi Unknown Teske was born 1865 in Prussia. She died 1872 in at sea, Atlantic Ocean, on voyage and was buried in at sea. According to family information, Bert and a friend were cabinet makers who heard there were high-paying opportunities in Australia. I do not have vital records for Bert, but his mother, Auguste Emelie Amalie Zilch, was born in 1878. There was contact between Bert and relations in Wisconsin during WWII, and perhaps as late as 1981. Family information also states his only son and only grandson were killed in a car accident on Christmas Eve, year not stated. His two grand daughters and their mother survived the accident. Teske b.1832, and other children including Ferdinand, Dorthea, and Fredrica. They are children of C.Fredrick Teske and Mary Hartwick, but I have never seen the list of all 11 children.
