    2. Don and Mary Saban
    3. We have all seen some strange entries on census. Ran across one today that I just had to share with all of you. Don had a g. grandfather on his mother's side who was named Robert and was a twin, the other boy named John. The boys were born in 1867. I have had the 1870 census ordered in for many months, finally got it in. Primarily got it to just have a xerox copy for our records. Found the family -- father, mother and three children older than the boys. Where the boys should have been listed, it was "JTR" age 2 M W born AL. Had to wait until we got the entry under the magnifying glass. It says, and I quote -- "J + R". The census taker in this census was great for writing initials down about half the time. In this case of twins, he put them both on the same line!! Had we not known that there were twin boys, and had the proof, we would be forever looking for a male JTR. Have seen some good ones, but this one so far takes first prize. Don and Mary in Wyoming

    2. Dan & Iva Holder
    3. I am researching the family of George Templeton b. ca 1751 d. 02 June 1820 in Iredell Co., NC. George's wife was Eleanor Gracey, d/o Patrick Gracey. Eleanor was born ca 1755 d. 22 Mar 1837 in Iredell, Co., NC. It is believed that George Templeton was the son of James Templeton born in Ireland and migrated from Lancaster Co., PA to NC ca 1748. The kinship of these two men has never been proven. The siblings of George Templeton are thought to be Joseph Templeton b. ca 1748, Elizabeth who later married William McDowell, Jane Templeton b. ca 1754 who married John Calahan. I have information on some of these folks and would love to correspond with those of you with a connection. I have several reference books on the Iredell Co., NC area. Iva Templeton Holder

    3. Pat: I have connections to the Templeton Family of Laurens County, SC as well. All I know of my connection , upon which I hang my hat (more or less), is that William Carter Templeton b. May 17, 1843, s/o James (b July 2, 1804) and Margaret Smith, married Cornelia E. Compton, b. 1842. All of this was in Laurens Cou., SC. Cornelia and William C. left SC for Asheville, NC sometime around 1879 with 7 daughters. (Yep, seven....bet ole' William C never saw the inside of a bathroom the rest of his life) ! Sorry, just kidding ! Cornelia Compton would be my GG Aunt, daughter of James and Nancy Poole Compton, also of Laurens County. I would really like to know more about Wm C. and his father James, back in SC. I would also like to know more about the seven daughters up in Asheville. I know where Wm C and wife Cornelia are buried in Asheville, but I can't get a clue reference their children. Looks like an entire line (Cornelia's) has died here for me. My ancestors (definitely including Cornelia and Wm C.) were members of the Langston Baptist Church, also known as the "Baptist Church of Christ of Upper Duncan Creek". I have seen other Templetons who I did not understand how to connect, mentioned in the minutes of this Church. (not nearly enough info here to begin to establish a lineage) . The Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery has many Templetons buried there as well. All I am trying to tell you is to keep digging in the Laurens County info because you have a large family there and connections will be made if you persist. In the meanwhile, do you recognize any names I have thrown your way ? Any hints as to where I might turn next ? My thanks in advance... Charlie Charles S. 1. Templeton Origins?
    2. Nick and Kate Madina
    3. Has anybody else heard the tale that's in my family about the Templeton origins? 1. My grandmother said that the Templetons were descended from a Spanish sailor who was rescued from (or jumped ship) at the time of the Armada and landed at a place called Portin Cross, West Kilbride. That accounts for their (our) swarthy complexions and the dark hair many of the Templetons have. 2. The Templeton name I think came because they lived near a headquarters of the Knights Templar. It does seem to make sense that a Spaniard would adopt a name from around the place he lived, and also that he would probably not have a clan alleigance. Catherine --------------------

    3. Hello Grace, Couldn't get through to you at your e address of Ivan;Boman@ha... Thank you for your AMAZINGLY rapid response to my posting. It's good hearing from you. The thing is, though, that I haven't traced my line back any further than my father's grandfather - he'd be born in Scotland about 1850. And though I feel sure it's possible some of the family emigrated in the previous century I don't really know. You're asking about a Susannah Templeton who was already in America in 1780 . I'm ever so sorry. Good luck in your search. Catherine

    3. Hello all! I am new to the list! My grandmother Della Templeton from Lancaster, SC. Della married Wilshire Dunlap and moved to Rock Hill, SC. Their children: Ezra Bavard1903 (my Dad) Eva Pauline 1905 Mabel Eva 1907 Louis 1909 So I'll give you the Templeton information I have on them and see if you can answer some of my mystery questions... and see if your lines meet mine. I am trying to find out who the parents of James C. Templeton in SC. I found him on the census in 1850 at the Spring Creek School for the Deaf and Blind (aka SC School for the Deaf and Blind) Spartenburg, SC. He was a student there and was deaf. The 1860 census shows him still at the school, now as a mechanic, and married to Mary J., a seamstress. Later, they had a son named named Davis (16), my great grandfather, who married Sarah Anne Louise Usher (also 16) in 1881. This occurred in Lancaster County, SC. Sarah got pregnant shortly after marriage and Davis died in an accident before my grandmother, Carrie Idella (Della) Templeton, was born in 1882. After Davis' death, Della went to live with the her grandparents. James died 11/13/1884. Mary petitioned the court to take custody of Della stating that she was the grandmother but signed the petition as Margaret Templeton. This occurred in Lancaster, SC. I am looking for information about who were James' parents. The school for the deaf and blind opened in 1849 with six students. James was not one of the six named. I have a history of the school's beginning. I am also looking for how Davis died. I have checked the records at the Lancaster County courthouse and the local newspaper but nothing was mentioned. If you would like to see pictures of Della and Davis go to http://www.costumegallery.com/vintage.htm Later... Penny Dunlap Ladnier The Costume Gallery http://www.costumegallery.com
