They don,t "come from nowhere"... I have found many mentions of Leofric as great and caring ruler. One book I have not been able to find..."FLORES HISTOREAUM" by Roger of Wentover ; supposedly earliest account of tradition. The "Tradition" is either attractive as a tale or has some real basis as is part of Coventry Fair festival in Coventry! Think I,ll check with my Birmingham and Midland Soc. in England.
